is there such thing as a 6 string bass?
Yes, there is. But here in the Philippines, we commonly use the 5-string bass, but they do say in other countries, like America, have a 6-string bass! That's what I heard from my friend.
Yah I have seen one as well, i just can't remember for the life of me where.
In my guitar class, we use a 6-string bass for some songs. It is called a contra-bass. Pretty much the same as a guitar, just with the lower octaves.
