Welcome to the Art Skills Competition.

As always, there are a few rules that needs to be followed for proper judging, viewing and general fairness.

Competition Rules
- All major parts of the entry must be original material, unless otherwise stated. Heavy references, sources and other visible influences should be credited as per normal forum courtesy.
- Submissions must follow the current theme to be judged, and must be drawn for that theme specifically. You cannot submit something you drew prior to the theme being announced
- Please do not post entries larger than 670 pixels in width. If your art is larger, post a thumbnail and link to the larger version.
- Artists cannot win in subsequent rounds, but are allowed to enter said rounds.
- Entries can be drawn in any medium available.

First Place
This was a difficult decision for me, and it is a decision derived mostly out of how I thought the theme should have been judged. I decided that I'd go off of what I thought was the coolest design for a frog was, and indeed Hectic won the cake.

Though I'd like to see it get a little less rough around the edges, the frog presented kept an original feel while appearing and seeming frog-like enough to be a frog. To be a snobby nitpicker, I'd tell you that the foremost eye is askew and dilapidated, and could be done better. Also, the horns don't particularly blend well into the creature. The colors do, but the lack of lines to show how the two parts of the beast connect end up making a good portion of it look flat. However, I like the perspective used.

Runner Up
After seeing my utter failure at making a compelling enough theme the first time around, I was pleased to find out that there would be at least one person to enter if I hadn't wisely changed the theme of the contest.

I liked the glare effect coming from its eyes. Truly, I think this frog is a god of amphibians who resides in the deepest part of the pond. He is large and he is harsh but he is fair. If only he wasn't such a recognizeable rainforest frog, he probably would have won- but I'm a stickler for monster creation, hence Hectic beat you.

AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH
AUUUUUGH CEN. CEN AUUUUUUUUUGH. SO CUTE. SO CUTE OH MY GOD. AUUUUGH.

This is a desert rain frog, whose adorable freaking squeaky peeew can be heard here:World's Cutest Frog

I really liked the style used for this. The lines are deliciously thick and there's a lot of action happening here. However due to my uannounced criteria I didn't give it a winning spot. Don't take it personally, it's still cute as can be. Even if it's the Dark Side of the frog, it doesn't make it any less adorable.

Just lookit those big 'ol eyes. Who can say no to those?

When I was a kid I would always look at politoad and see if it was a hypnosis type thing. It never worked, but I continued to try anyway. That bit of myself out of the way, I think that the portrayal of the beloved frog pokemans is pretty accurate to how things would work in the animal kingdom. Each is well represented and you can tell what they are. Good one.

I almost gave this one first place, but it was missing one element: action. The frog looks quite nice and original, and the concept is tidy. The only thing that the character needed in order to have won would have been casting some kind of spell, or maybe more detail on the book/staff to give more of a clue to the past behind it. If it wasn't for having wholly separate criteria for runner's up (I had a variety of choices, so I didn't exactly know how I'd be able to base runner's up on the same type of criteria), this would have definetly won it.

New Theme!

Heartbreak. It breaks hearts. I've been through heartbreak, a lot of my friends have been through heartbreak. It's something that hollows out a person and makes them always cry out to be whole again.

But that theme is depressing, so instead we're going to do Lost Kingdoms!

From the Mayans to the Incas to the mythical Atlanteans, there's a certain call to the Lost Kingdoms of Yore that invade the audience's mind. I would like to see out of this theme crumbling temples, fallen buildings and forgotten cities that nature tore apart while mankind forgot. Or, perhaps it'll be our very own cities completely forgotten and last to the annals of history? Already there are Lost Kingdoms and cities beneath our feet, recorded in the footnotes of college history papers.

As was with before, if I have less than 4 entries I'll just do a new theme, or I'll pump it back a half a week or so.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I'll probably be able to do something for this theme. Don't count on it though.

Nice turnout, looks like things are going well!

Thoad, I changed the thread title but I don't know what day you want the deadline to be. You may have mentioned something about a regular day but it might help if you specified the date regardless.

Oh, sure. I planned for the regular date to be every Tuesday, so the date would be March 12th for the next one.

I didn't get my minimum of 4 entries, so I'm pushing this back a week.

I'll be stuck at home all day tomorrow and I should probably be able to get around to doing something. I'm also confident that you can count on a submission this time around. :P

Well, four entries have certainly been had! So here goes the judgy mudging:

A Winrar is You!

hectic was the only one who I think really captured the idea of a lost civilization. It's a crumbling castle with overgrowing plains, which is about as lost civilization as you can get. The only thing I would have done to make it better would be to have vines and such inside the cobbles of the castle, but otherwise it looks pretty fine and dandy.

Running Up
http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a627/Reton8/AG%20Image%20Uploads/LostKingdom.png?t=1363077139
Even though I'm not super keen on fanart, you did a good job with the bleeding (likely due to the high humidity of a beach) letters and the beach itself. The keyblade is a little awkward in the sand, but I think it works pretty well anyway. The reason why this didn't get first was because it didn't really give me thoughts on any lost civilization- I'd reckon it's because I haven't played any of the Kingdom Hearts games.

Simplicity Award
http://imageshack.us/a/img585/2806/17818444.png
This almost beat hectic, if but the castle isn't near crumbly enough or devastated enough to be considered a lost part of a civilization. Even so, it has a certain charm of simplicity that only basic shapes can provide.

Sin City

I have a weak point for cityscapes, because they make my brain and heart get all thumpy and flustered. Sadly though, the theme was a Lost kingdom, and less an already found kingdom. Even so, charming as always.

The new theme!

I like fire. A lot. Some people would tell me that I'm immature because of it, others would associate with me and say "Yeah, I like fire a lot too". Even more, people would call me a lunatic with the amount of myself I see in the dancing flames and would tell me that I need to see a mental doctor as soon as was physically possible. I set those people on fire.

So the new theme will be water. Just kidding, it's fire. Just kidding again! It's both. You can do either Fire, Water, or if you want BONUS points when judging comes around, Fire & Water.

I think I'll give this two weeks, but if I have the minimum 4 entries by the end of next Tuesday, I'll do the judging then. Happy Tuesday everyone, let's see some good stuff!

Well, I suppose that my post is sort of a pun "Lost Kingdoms",Kingdom Hearts", "Lost Kingdom Hearts". I'm hoping my reference to Roanoke Colony wasn't lost.

His men could not find any trace of the 90 men, 17 women, and 11 children, nor was there any sign of a struggle or battle.[3]:130â"33
The only clue was the word "Croatoan" carved into a post of the fort and "Cro" carved into a nearby tree. All the houses and fortifications had been dismantled, which meant their departure had not been hurried.

They are still not exactly sure what has happened to the colony to this day. I suppose, on top of that, the colony will never become what it could have been if it prospered and in a sense a forever lost kingdom.

However, since I don't really have a solid idea how Sora fits in (it started as the pun with no real deeper meaning). Maybe he visits the colony in some alternate-fan-fiction universe, in which he becomes lost with the colonists, leaving only his keyblade and the wood with the words Croatoan on them. The keyblade is supposed to look muddy and rusty, as if it has been there for sometime.

Yay, okay those are my thoughts on my piece.
