Technically, by definition, Atheism is a religion.
I feel like many atheists don't even realize that they are very similar to people who belong to another religion. They are both just belief systems.

I strongly Believe atheism is not a religion for the fact they don't believe in a god or an unseen power

atheists can still be religious (because it simply means don't believe in god) while nihilists call all religion as pointless, and foolish. those are the major differences between the two.

I've never met an atheist that didn't ridicule people that believe in God...

Yes you have. You just didn't realize they were an atheist because they didn't do what you thought all atheists did.

There's also a large difference between ridiculing someone who believes in a god and ridiculing people for believing specifically disproved absurd things, or trying to force said ridiculous absurd beliefs onto others.

According to Google

Atheism: The theory or belief that God does not exist.

Religion: 1.The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.
2. Details of belief as taught or discussed.

Nothing in common. According to Google, atheism is not a religion.

The google definition isn't very good.

Atheism: The lack of a belief in supernatural entities or powers.

^ Most accurate I can think of.

Your idea is better Kasic, I'm just to lazy to actually google the defin for atheism.
