One of the genuinely great historians of today, admired by supporters and detractors alike, ferocious in his assertions, breathtakingly refreshing and immensely knowledgeable; his death will be a loss to the discipline and to the Marxist school of history. (And hence warrants a thread in the WERP)

(Side point, anyone here reads his works? This will probably die fast, but oh well!)

A brilliant and prolific historian, one of the greatest intellectuals of the last century. While Marxism is not my cup of tea, all his books are very educational and highly recommended, especially his "Age of ..." series.
RIP.

Hobsbawm* :P

I thoroughly enjoyed his "The Age of Extremes", with the exception of his mainly Eurocentric perspective to that period. He was a remarkable historian. RIP.

Heh, my Brit teacher with his weird Sussex accent keeps calling it Hobsbawn with a silent m :p. Apologies!
