The first one gets my attention much more than the second, but I agree with Clancy12 about the background. You're probably right about the second one, though. Maybe the colours are too similar and the man doesn't contrast enough, but I still like it. I'm going to pretend that I know something about art and say that I would try to use lighter colours for the background, especially at the top (something like the lilac at the left side of the man's arm). I don't know...
