Old game, I know, but still, I just managed to beat him after a gazillion tries. I'm a LVL 14 Assassin on Hard. I respecced to the following:
* 2 levels of Adrenaline
* 3 levels of Furious Strikes
* 3 levels of Earth Affinity
* 3 levels of Devastation
* 2 levels of Defensive Reflex (not sure though if it was triggered)
Additionally I took one of all powerups I had (including Deep Water and Packed Bento etc..)
I've got a Transcendent quality Emerald Spear and a complete set of Dark Glass Armor.
With all this I just kept going at 'em while backing away when he was producing a poison cloud. This in the end brought him to his knees.
