Why do people believe "Atheism" is a religion?

but I'd imagine that civilizations allowing murder and theft didn't last long

the mayans allowed murder. (as long you said it was a sacrifices for the gods)
and theft didn't really exist. there was no so thing as personal property.
and they lasted for pretty long. =P

Human sacrifice is essentially government murder in the same way the death penalty is. While morally wrong, it's not legalizing murder for your everyday citizen, which is what I was speaking of.

As for personal property, not only did they have it, they also had a working economy and trade system.
