Actually, it's a herb.
The plant is technically a herb, but the fruit is still a berry. Know the difference.

Doesn't that just apply to words beginning with a vowel...are you drawing from the fact that some people pronounce herb 'erb?

That's the correct pronunciation of the word, unless you're referring to the name Herb, which is pronounced phonetically. It's one of those words that changes pronunciation when capitalized, like job or polish.
