The elf looks at you as though you’re talking in another language. “No.” he says shortly, glancing at you Gold pouch. He apparently doesn’t believe that you’re an “enterprising” Ranger. “However,” the elf says suddenly, “We are holding a Fair today. Are you going?” he says with an odd tone, as though he is requesting a password.

I stare at him, trying to glean information about this "Fair". "Yes, I'll be there. Will you?"

"Another game, then." Bric says with a bit of a scowl. He apparently doesn't like losing, especially to a low-level Kingdom-dweller. He picks up the deck and shuffles it, then deals. (You have 2 now. Ante is still 1. That means that you can raise it 1 and can win a maximum of 10G, giving you a "soft 20". Also, remove the Curved Dagger from your Inventory, since you sold it to play cards.)

Ante: 1
Raise: -
You (1): [KC] [8D]
Bric (1): [4H] [??]
Brac (1): [6H] [??]

(no no no, soft twenty is having a twenty with an ace providing 11. right now I have a hard 18... ) I think i'll hold.

The box is white with a large red blood splash painted on the top. You toss it to him, and he uses it to patch himself up with gauze and a health tonic or two. The man stands up and stretches carefully. He is considerably taller than you and very muscular. He gives you a smirk. “I had him right where I wanted him, you know.”

"Ah, of course. I forgot that the way of the warrior was the way of giving your opponent that upper hand!" I say with a friendly laugh

"My name is pang, yours?" I say, with my hand outstretched

Story:

@Max
(Do me a huge favor and post the number of chips you have when you re-post. You have a lot of them, more than anyone else right now).

You raised 3, making the total raise 5. Vichtor takes a card and folds. “22. Lost that one.”
+3 Chips (since he was in 3 and didn’t call).

@rick
(Update your Stat Sheet. Remove the Tower Shield and equip the Iron Shield L2)

The man takes your shield and lifts it with one hand. “Levels mean nothing to me. I just collect them for the heck of it. Day is breaking, it seems. Anything I can do for you, or will you be off?”

Feel free to ask the man anything.

@Gamer
(First in charge is Dan. Go to the Help - Admins/Mods or wherever it is. You’ll get a full list. Don’t worry, Ferret’s not going to ban you or anything, he’s a nice guy).

You go to the White Forest. It’s a beautiful wood, entirely green except for the tree bark, which is bright white. A large hedge is to your right that seems too thick to cross. Ahead is a signpost with two arrows. Selphy goes to the right, following the sign and you soon reach the small elf town, surrounded by a solid wooden wall. It has a large set of double-gates and a watchtower with an elf. He sees you approach and stands up, calling “For what purpose do you visit Scarborough?”

@Shadow
The board has the same two other quests that I will repost for you. I will put completed quests in italics.

-THIEF! A boy wearing a red cap stole my Gold pouch. That had 20G in it! Find him and get my money back (+50 EXP), and teach him a lesson while you’re at it (+50 EXP)! He ran off to the Lowhouses.
-I need a new look. The lining on my cloak is starting to fade away. If someone can bring me a Wolfdog (L2) Fur, I’d be happy to make it worth your trouble (+15G).
-RANDOM! I’ve always wondered how many upright logs were used to build the wall around this place. If someone can go count them all up for me, I’ll give them a MC Card I found! Or trade, if you want. Whatever.

@Bluydee
You grab the hourglass from its stand on the table....and... (Yes, I know what you’re going to do, but you should say it anyway) flip it over and slam it on the table. The stone men freeze, then back up to their wall and stand up straight. The light vanishes from their eyes and the orbs return to the table.

You are about to get an epic bonus for this room. The small chest opens, providing a key. Suddenly the tripods holding the orbs unlock, allowing you to pick one of them up, yellow or green.

@SubZero
The elf immediately loses interest. “I am already at the Fair, as you can tell.” He seems to have nothing else to say. You may still buy and sell here, though.

(Check your Profile. I’ll provide the solution to the elf’s riddle)

@Shadow
(You need to be putting the past events in quote tabs. Also, “soft 20” meant you had 20 Gold. Haha mix-up there)

You hold. Bric and Brac each take a card, and they both bust.
-5G (ante)
+10G (winnings)
You now have 15G

Bric and Brac exchange a look, then Brac re-shuffles the cards. Bric nods and him and he turns to you. “Ante just went up. 10G to play.” He doesn’t like losing either.

@pang
He takes your hand, almost numbing your hand in his vice grip handshake. “I am Vichtor, the sole landowner of Flatwater Lake. ‘Pang?’ Never heard a name like that. Ah well. The sun is up. I suppose I owe you for the trouble, but you don’t have a use for shields, and I haven’t any jobs that I can’t do myself. Hm.” He frowns and taps his chin. “I have a deck of cards, if you want to play. If you’ll be on your way, I’ll give you a personal deck. I have a classic deck worth 10G. You’ll find good business if you’re enjoy cards, you will, especially in a Tavern.” He shrugs. “Or I could give you 10G of your own, but you’ll end up with a good bit more with a deck of cards, if you know what you’re doing!”

A deck of cards will take up 1 Inventory slot. It does not replace Weapon or Armor and can be used at any time. With some practice, you can learn to throw them. You’ll do no damage but it will be entertaining and can provide a good distraction.

--------------
Message Board:

AllPlayers:
I have added a deck of cards as a purchasable Inventory item. You can buy them in a Tavern. At some point, I will add steel throwing cards as a Weapon for Thief/Assassin, although other classes will be able to use them as well (Ranger and Mage, probably).

END GM Sheet

Lightning or poison? Easy choice.

I take both the key and yellow orb, then head back and open the door on the pillar.

You reach for the yellow orb and lift it from the tripod. You turn and see that the statue, holding the chain, is beginning to crack. It splits, then cumbles, then explodes into a cloud of grey debris. The gritty smoke hangs in the air, then is suddenly sucked into the orb you are holding. The orb turns from a glowing yellow to a piece of smooth grey strone. A circle appears, glowing yellow, which scatters into several thin golden cracks, as though lightning had blasted from it.

The glowing stone orb is added to your Inventory under Summondex as
Summondex (1/?): Lightning Bishop [Rare L2, 100MP]

Get it? It's a Chess piece, since you're in a giant Chess rook. It's also singular to this specific dungeon in this specific map, so it's a Rare Summon. It will Level Up as you do. So your new stat sheet is:

Name: Bluydee, 200 HP, 250 MP
Class: Summoner, Level 2, EXP (150/200)
Weapon(s): Mage’s Staff (L1)
Armor: Mage’s Robe (L1)

You step into the wooden Elf Tavern. It's rather clean, as far as Taverns go, since elves do not drink much (and only ale at that) and prefer to have things in order. The tables have exactly four chairs each and are intricately carved, although there are two larger six-person tables for cards. A slightly overweight elf is behind the bar, washing glasses and humming. Several are playing cards (one table is Blackjack, one is Poker), and several others are at the bar or chatting at tables.
