The Two Castles

~The Story~
The story begins with Castle Terrus, the greatest landmark in the world of Terra Novus. The castle itself was over a mile wide and housed thousands upon thousands of citizens. The King was a just and honorable man and ruled his kingdom from his castle in an age of peace that spanned nearly a thousand years. All was quiet and calm. Then, as with all stories, a single man became prideful. He saw that the King was aged and vulnerable. He was living in a generation that had never heard of war, much less seen it. He forced his way to the throne room and demanded the king bow to him. The King drew his sword. Enraged, the man vowed that he would not rest until Terrus had fallen.

The days grew dark after that. Swords were forged. Speeches were given. Hatred and envy grew. The King and the Man built their armies continually. The citizens of Castle Terrus experienced fear for the first time. An era of war and hatred was coming. The King, in his wisdom, knew that he could stop the oncoming war by stopping the Man behind it. He challenged him to a duel on the tallest tower. He accepted at once. When he arrived, the King grabbed him, disarmed him and threw himself, along with the Man, from the tower to their death.

The result was chaos. The armies, both bent on avenging their fallen leader, decimated each other. The mighty Castle Terrus fell. Each side retreated from each other to the edge of Terra Novus. There they decided to build their own castle. One for the Kingdom and the future restoration of peace, and one for Anarchy and the future destruction of peace.

Ages and ages passed, each side building a greater and taller and mightier castle. Each passed to the next generation their quest: to build the castle and fight. However, as the generations passed, that message faded away. Now, the castle residents live as they please, enjoying the freedom from the influence of the other castle. This is where your story begins: in the age of the Two Castles.

~The Rules~
READ THEM

-This is an adventure RPG. You will be fighting monsters, finding chests, solving Dungeons, killing bosses and earning all kinds of epic Legendary gear. It is divided into classes and involves turn-based combat. If thatâs what youâre looking for, this is it.
-No profanity, crude language, lewd comments, etc.
-No spam, trolling, etc.
-No âgod-modding.â You are not a superpowered Destroyer of Worlds. You are a human.
-Use correct grammar and spelling. Donât expect much from me if you donât try.
-This is a level-based game with level-based weapons. You will start at L1, which means all your weapons will be L1. You can ONLY equip weapons/armor at your level. You have a 10-Item inventory to store items until later use, along with a Castle Vault (more on that later)
-No hunger, thirst, stamina or exhaustion stats. Yay!
-Players who played the previous version, âEpicâs Tactical Base vs Base Strategy RPG,â will receive a Starter Pack bonus (more below)

~The Game~
You are a Hero of the Kingdom or a Hero of the Anarchy. Each side has a castle. For a very basic reference, imagine the original Red-vs-Blue âHALOâ map. Neither side has superior elements. Names will be changed on weapons and enemies may be different, but nothing significant.
You are loyal to your Castle and your Castle alone. You cannot defect.
This what you do:
Travel to different locations (on the Active Map) to fight monsters, explore dungeons, etc.
Explore the Castle (your castle is old and full of secrets. Locked doors, hidden rooms, etc).
Upgrade the Castle (to access more rooms and other things)
Buy/Sell at the Castle or at Towns
Be awesome.

~The Game Master~
I am Matt, and I am the GM. I will be controlling the environments, the bosses, the EXP and the dropped items. I will update this game at least once a day. I have added a âMessage Boardâ section to the GM Sheet (it lists all the elements of the game per day) to ask me questions or make suggestions, such as âCan I use this weapon?â or âI think you need more elemental monsters.â If you complain, complain there. If you complain frequently, you will be dealt with. I am, ultimately, the final authority on this game. Donât freak out, I always reply to comments and I will provide hints if you need them.

There will be action, comedy, cut-scenes (for boss kills) and hidden references. I may throw out a âGuess this thing, get 200 EXPâ every so often. You may find shout-outs to movies or video games along the way. If you have a good idea for a new weapon/armor/boss, post it in my âMessage Boardâ section.

~The Sheets~
There are several sheets you will see and you need to understand them. Iâll post all of them right off.

GM Sheet: This gives the day, weather, time, castle stats, character sheets, and several other important elements. Pay attention to this. When it is rainy, you wonât be able to see monsters as quickly. When it is dark, more monsters will spawn. Etc.

Class Sheet: This gives the templates for all classes, along with a description of each.

The Store: All available items, plus prices.

The Starter Packs: Previous players can choose TWO (yes, I changed it to TWO) of the following:
-Your previous Level (to find better weapons and armor and such)!
-Any one weapon or armor item!
-Your previous location (if you were in a dungeon or something)!
-Your companion or pet!
-A 50% Coupon for all (yes, ALL) Castle Store items (the Level limit still applies, donât buy L8 armor if youâre L5)! This is called the â50-POCâ (50 percent off coupon) and it is an Inventory item.

Good News: The Castles will NOT be attacked or breached anytime soon, so don't spend Gold on defeneses. Go adventuring.

You landed on the Wolfdog, but it has gotten out from under you, although it appears to have sprained a back leg) The Wolfdog makes a bite at your throat and is hit in the shoulder by an arrow from an archer, dealing 25!

Story:

@Sonic
There is a Tavern not far away. You move quickly towards in and step inside, finally getting out of the rain. You find a bartender wiping glasses of ale and stacking them. There are several elves at various tables, chatting and telling stories. The card tables are, at the moment, full, due to the lousy weather and lack of daylight. A young light-haired elf maid is carrying a tray between tables, getting glasses refilled with ale. You can:
-Talk to anyone (rumors or potential quests, or just for information or tips)
-Have a seat and order a glass of ale (because elf ale is good, I suppose. And non-alcoholic, so no hangovers)
Either of those is fine. I have a bit of a story planned for the Tavern, so if you stick around youâll run into it.

@rick
You unlock the door, revealing a circular set of stairs. You climb them and reach a wide, circular room with a flat roof, which seems odd because the Castle seemed to have an open top. It is well-lit, though, from wide windows in the rock all the way around the room. The trapdoor closes and vanishes behind you. Looking down, you find yourself on a black-and-white checkerboard.
You realize what is about to happen when one of the tiles (they're rather large, 5 feet by 5 feet) slides back and a Rook rises from the floor. It's at least seven feet tall with no apparent features, shaped like the castle it lives in. It appears to be entirely stone, but then a single red eye opens in the center. It looks at you and rushes forward.

@Bluydee
The sign, when seen up close, has two arrows pointing in different directions. The left one says âThe Rabbit Holeâ and the right one says âScarborough.â You hear a bit of rustling in a tree behind you. Make a choice quickly.

@EPIC
The table is rectangular and very long, seating around twenty people. The chair at one end is taller than the others. Each of the chairs has a pair of crossed swords engraved on the back. It would appear that this is a dining hall for Knights. The fireplace is loaded with wood and debris, but you canât locate a lighter of any kind, and the darkness isnât helping. Above your head is a metal torch holder without a torch. You see a few barrels lining the walls, but they look unmarked.

@SubZero
The room you are in contains sword and blade-based weapons. The wing to the right contains spears, axes, mage staffs and other pole-based weapons. The wing to the left contains shields, shields and just about anything relating to shields. The wing in the back holds bow-based weapons of a variety of sorts. The central room, which is well-lit from an unknown source of light, has Legendary weapons. (Iâm not sure what you mean by search them âsystematically.â Do you want me to list out every single weapon all at once? Thatâs not going to happen. Pick a specific wing, or the center room, to explore.)

@Max
(To answer your question, your elemental attacks use actual elements. If you us electricity on an enemy in water, while in water yourself, youâre going to get electrocuted. If you use fire on a tree, you could end up causing a forest fire. Please donât do that. Consider your location before using attacks. This can also be to a great advantage. If an enemy is using metal armor and you hit it with lightning, heâs going to take a lot of damage and could end up stunned).

You use 50MP to light the fire (relax, I wonât deduct it because itâll be back before you leave the Castle). It flares up instantly and lights the room with a warm glow. You are looking at a long table that could hold twenty people. One chair, at the end, is higher than the others and has silver trim. All of the chairs have a knightâs crest engraved on the back. It appears to be a dining hall. The walls have large barrels of food and drink stacked around them. If this game had Hunger and Thirst stats, youâd be very pleased with yourself. You also notice some documents on the table and a second fireplace at the other end of the room.

@Gamer
Your plan works. The three arrows lock into the door. The slots are on a round metal disc of some kind. You pull the shaft of one of the arrows to the side and the disc rotates in a circle. You hear a few metal bars retracting and the door swings open. Good work. +50 EXP for figuring it out first try and for wishing me a happy birthday.

The room has large target dummies on poles set up in random locations. It would seem to be an archer training room, although it seems like an odd place for one, since you arenât in the Training Hall. All of the targets have grooves and nicks in them from arrows. There are other targets along a few walls, although itâs difficult to see everything because the room has no lighting and itâs still dark and stormy. Selphy touches your arm and points upwards. At one end of the room, very close to the ceiling, is a golden bell hanging from a rafter. There is no cord or ladder to reach it, though.

Youâre in. The world is yours to explore. You can check out your castle or travel somewhere on the Active Map (recommended. Be aware that you can travel to any location, regardless of its Level, but youâre at a greater risk of dying).

AllPlayers:
I have training for my government job Tuesday to Thursday, so I will not be able to work on this (I will be leaving my laptop, and all the TTC data, at home). That means I won't be able to release a new sheet for several days. Can't get out of it. My birthday is April 5, so I may not be online, and Saturday is a busy day (going shopping with friends, etc).

Look for a new GM Sheet Friday night. I'll post an update on my status at least.

@Sasuke
The "Active Map" is in every GM Sheet. It's not an actual map. It's a list of locations you can go to. I don't have the time or skills to make a visible map, and I don't feel like stealing it from a pre-existing source.

I bash the wolf in the head with the hilt of my sword till it gets off me, stand up and ( if it's weak enough) try my finishing move on it, if not I do a sword slash.

(Hmm, I see, but that adds a new question, if there is a thunder/lightning storm, and I use lightning, the spell would get a boost right?)

"Hmm, an odd chair, documents, a second fireplace, and food and drinks. Wonder which I should inspect first. Guess I'll check the documents, and try getting some clues from it." Thinking to myself, head over to the documents and examine them.

Ps. Early happy birthday, don't know if you'll be on when it comes, so saying it now.

Then I sit down at the big chair at one end of the table.

@Gamer

I tell Selphy to keep an eye on the on the surroundings,especially the dummies,then we try to make our way closer under the bell.

Government job, Matt is obviously not a spy, he is probably a secret scientist about to discover the way for space travel and he has probably been contacting aliens.

Hey guys, just checking in to let you know I haven't forgotten you. Training went well. I now have a fancy certificate for three 8-hour days of training, and you know what? They SPELLED MY NAME WRONG. Seriously. I refuse to post a picture.

Anyway. Tomorrow is my birthday and Saturday is busy. I plan to update in the evening of one of those two days.

Haha, no. Definitely a spy. I was being assigned a new alias. An alias with a misspelled name. Actually, it's agriculture. You would be amazed at how many acronyms the government (state government, soil conservation district, or SCD) uses for every single thing. Ugh.

But I got cool confidential spy information that I'm not allowed to reveal...heh heh...my new alias is "Jesse Sea." Don't use it, and don't tell anyone. Not even Ferret.

Well first of all....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

"Hey Matt, can I take a weapon or two?" First I'll look in the bow room, and check out the more notable ones. Then I'll go to the Legendary room.
