The Two Castles

~The Story~
The story begins with Castle Terrus, the greatest landmark in the world of Terra Novus. The castle itself was over a mile wide and housed thousands upon thousands of citizens. The King was a just and honorable man and ruled his kingdom from his castle in an age of peace that spanned nearly a thousand years. All was quiet and calm. Then, as with all stories, a single man became prideful. He saw that the King was aged and vulnerable. He was living in a generation that had never heard of war, much less seen it. He forced his way to the throne room and demanded the king bow to him. The King drew his sword. Enraged, the man vowed that he would not rest until Terrus had fallen.

The days grew dark after that. Swords were forged. Speeches were given. Hatred and envy grew. The King and the Man built their armies continually. The citizens of Castle Terrus experienced fear for the first time. An era of war and hatred was coming. The King, in his wisdom, knew that he could stop the oncoming war by stopping the Man behind it. He challenged him to a duel on the tallest tower. He accepted at once. When he arrived, the King grabbed him, disarmed him and threw himself, along with the Man, from the tower to their death.

The result was chaos. The armies, both bent on avenging their fallen leader, decimated each other. The mighty Castle Terrus fell. Each side retreated from each other to the edge of Terra Novus. There they decided to build their own castle. One for the Kingdom and the future restoration of peace, and one for Anarchy and the future destruction of peace.

Ages and ages passed, each side building a greater and taller and mightier castle. Each passed to the next generation their quest: to build the castle and fight. However, as the generations passed, that message faded away. Now, the castle residents live as they please, enjoying the freedom from the influence of the other castle. This is where your story begins: in the age of the Two Castles.


~The Rules~
READ THEM

-This is an adventure RPG. You will be fighting monsters, finding chests, solving Dungeons, killing bosses and earning all kinds of epic Legendary gear. It is divided into classes and involves turn-based combat. If thatâs what youâre looking for, this is it.
-No profanity, crude language, lewd comments, etc.
-No spam, trolling, etc.
-No âgod-modding.â You are not a superpowered Destroyer of Worlds. You are a human.
-Use correct grammar and spelling. Donât expect much from me if you donât try.
-This is a level-based game with level-based weapons. You will start at L1, which means all your weapons will be L1. You can ONLY equip weapons/armor at your level. You have a 10-Item inventory to store items until later use, along with a Castle Vault (more on that later)
-No hunger, thirst, stamina or exhaustion stats. Yay!
-Players who played the previous version, âEpicâs Tactical Base vs Base Strategy RPG,â will receive a Starter Pack bonus (more below)


~The Game~
You are a Hero of the Kingdom or a Hero of the Anarchy. Each side has a castle. For a very basic reference, imagine the original Red-vs-Blue âHALOâ map. Neither side has superior elements. Names will be changed on weapons and enemies may be different, but nothing significant.
You are loyal to your Castle and your Castle alone. You cannot defect.
This what you do:
Travel to different locations (on the Active Map) to fight monsters, explore dungeons, etc.
Explore the Castle (your castle is old and full of secrets. Locked doors, hidden rooms, etc).
Upgrade the Castle (to access more rooms and other things)
Buy/Sell at the Castle or at Towns
Be awesome.


~The Game Master~
I am Matt, and I am the GM. I will be controlling the environments, the bosses, the EXP and the dropped items. I will update this game at least once a day. I have added a âMessage Boardâ section to the GM Sheet (it lists all the elements of the game per day) to ask me questions or make suggestions, such as âCan I use this weapon?â or âI think you need more elemental monsters.â If you complain, complain there. If you complain frequently, you will be dealt with. I am, ultimately, the final authority on this game. Donât freak out, I always reply to comments and I will provide hints if you need them.

There will be action, comedy, cut-scenes (for boss kills) and hidden references. I may throw out a âGuess this thing, get 200 EXPâ every so often. You may find shout-outs to movies or video games along the way. If you have a good idea for a new weapon/armor/boss, post it in my âMessage Boardâ section.


~The Sheets~
There are several sheets you will see and you need to understand them. Iâll post all of them right off.

GM Sheet: This gives the day, weather, time, castle stats, character sheets, and several other important elements. Pay attention to this. When it is rainy, you wonât be able to see monsters as quickly. When it is dark, more monsters will spawn. Etc.

Class Sheet: This gives the templates for all classes, along with a description of each.

The Store: All available items, plus prices.

The Starter Packs: Previous players can choose TWO (yes, I changed it to TWO) of the following:
-Your previous Level (to find better weapons and armor and such)!
-Any one weapon or armor item!
-Your previous location (if you were in a dungeon or something)!
-Your companion or pet!
-A 50% Coupon for all (yes, ALL) Castle Store items (the Level limit still applies, donât buy L8 armor if youâre L5)! This is called the â50-POCâ (50 percent off coupon) and it is an Inventory item.

Good News: The Castles will NOT be attacked or breached anytime soon, so don't spend Gold on defeneses. Go adventuring.

You walk over near the tables and lean against a pillar. Given the terrible weather, the elves are playing steadily. You notice, to your right, another elf with a small pouch of Gold in one hand. He gives you a look. Apparently he is waiting to play as well. Suddenly, something stings your left ear. It feels as though you were cut by a small knife. You touch your ear, but donât feel a cut or any blood, and your hood is undamaged. You glace up and notice a large mirror on the wall at the end of the bar. A hooded and cloaked person is beside a pillar behind you, near the door. They reach into their sleeve and pull out what looks like a throwing needle.

Each of them has a name, a sketch of a manâs face and a physical description of him. Underneath it is a paragraph describing his history, followed by a small 1-10 level for Character, Honesty, Bravery and Obedience. At the bottom of each paper is a place for a signature and a blank square for the seal.

A sealed letter is resting directly in front of the chair. It is titled: âLORD Karras, MASTER OF THE KNIGHTS.â The envelope has been opened, but the document is still inside.

You enter the White Forest. It is a wide, peaceful place. Everything is green, except for the tree trunks, which are pale white, although it is hard to tell, thanks to the darkness, rain and lightning. To your right is a hedge that is too tall to pass through. A flash of lightning reveals a signpost ahead.

The metal-on-metal technique produces a few sparks, but not enough to start a fire (you would really need a piece of flint for that). However (because I am nice), something catches your eye in a lightningâs flash. A small metal box is resting beside the fireplace. The top is open, and it contains a piece of, not surprisingly, flint. You make the connection quickly and soon have a proper fire going.

You sit at the head seat and enjoy the view. The other seats are all pulled up to the table in perfect order. In front of you are a large pile of documents, as well as a wax seal, a bottle of dried ink and a thin wooden reed for writing.

You and Selphy make your way across the smooth stone floor to one end of the room. The wall has several poles mounted to it, horizontally, for hanging paper and wooden targets (the poles are far too thin to climb). Above your head, handing by a single link of chain, is a bell. On closer examination, it is actually a brass bell, which will make a clearer and stronger sound than gold. It is about the size of an orange, and the rafter is a good twenty feet above your head.

You head over to the âBowâ wing. Each wall is lined by pegs with bows hanging from them, along with a stone plaque with a name and a description of each bow. You find:

You notice the list is particularly short. âThatâs becauseâ Matt says âThose are the only weapons that have been found so far. I canât add them to the Armory until they exist, and they donât exist yet. Once they exist, they will show up here. Also, as for you question...no.â He shrugs. âYou have to buy them, or find them, or kill a Boss. If you have the money for them, though, you can purchase them at the Warp Store.â He snaps his fingers and the doors to the Legendary room open. âYou can have a look at the existing Legendaries, though.â

(Meant more of gathering the 'energy' the outside elements, then adding their 'energy' with the one you're 'creating' to give a boost, not much of one since you have no control over it -- an example, you gather the 'heat energy' from a nearby source to increase the effects of your fire, causing the 'burns' to be more severe or something, or while in a 'storm', you cast a lightning spell, the spell may cause lightning to strike down from the clouds and hit the target, and maybe yourself, due to how 'lightning' works. Anyways, yet huh?


"Hmm, since the letter was opened, and left there, no one would mind if I read it, right?" Thinking this I'll take the letter out and read it. Once done reading the letter, I'll inspect the other seven documents, discerning if they holds any significances.

(No. Iâm not adding boosts to elemental attacks based on surroundings or situations. Too complicated for right now. Iâm working on adding a new area to the map and a few other things. Plus, itâs hard to make a fair bonus of nearby elements and such. As of now, itâs not going to happen. Try to enjoy the story for now, Iâm actually pleased with where itâs going. It will make legitimate sense).

You very carefully open the envelope and slide the letter out. It is very old, but the paper is study. You unfold it and read the following:

You have been given the great honor of becoming one of the Masters of the Kingdom. As you have no doubt learned, Master Gallarain of the White Forest has fallen in battle. The White Forest has been under great stress of late, as the forces of the Anarchy have pressed hard against one of the great places of peace. The knight fortress has been burned. The Anarchists have turned to Scarborough, the elvish city. If it is taken, the last of the forest elves will die.

You are Lord Karrus no more. You are Karrus, Master of the White Forest. Come to me at once. Lead our forces. Take up the legendary weapon that Gallarain has dropped. Let them feel the wrath of the Castle of the Kingdom once again!

You place the letter carefully back onto the table, then take the seven documents and examine them. Each has an ink sketch of a manâs face, plus the details mentioned before. The names are Ettus, Restus, Gallan, Atcher, Simon, Mennus, and Gallarius. The last one has a particularly good description and rating. All of them have been signed with the name âL Karrusâ and have the wax seal stamped on them. It would seem that Lord Karrus was at one point a recruiter of knights. (There are several good storyline clues in there that you should have picked up on. They will make more sense as it goes).

You enter the White Forest. It is a wide, peaceful place. Everything is green, except for the tree trunks, which are pale white, although it is hard to tell, thanks to the darkness, rain and lightning. To your right is a hedge that is too tall to pass through. A flash of lightning reveals a signpost ahead.

There are quite a few papers, spread in a semi-circle. Beside them is a wax seal, a sealed bottle of ink and a thin wooden reed used for writing. There are seven documents in total, and they are identical. Each of them has a name, a sketch of a manâs face and a physical description of him. Underneath it is a paragraph describing his history, followed by a small 1-10 level for Character, Honesty, Bravery and Obedience. At the bottom of each paper is a place for a signature and a blank square for the seal (you can examine them even more closely for names and to see who is signed, but itâs not going to be significant. It may provide some story later on).

A sealed letter is resting directly in front of the chair. It is titled: âLORD Karras, MASTER OF THE KNIGHTS.â The envelope has been opened, but the document is still inside.

You and Selphy make your way across the smooth stone floor to one end of the room. The wall has several poles mounted to it, horizontally, for hanging paper and wooden targets (the poles are far too thin to climb). Above your head, handing by a single link of chain, is a bell. On closer examination, it is actually a brass bell, which will make a clearer and stronger sound than gold. It is about the size of an orange, and the rafter is a good twenty feet above your head.

You step into a wide, circular room that is well-lit by a white, pure light that seems to come from nowhere. Around the walls you see a large title set in stone with the name of a map. Underneath is the weapon, and below that is the name and description of the weapon, plus the name of the Legendary Boss that carries it. Some of the weapons have no map at the top and no Legendary Boss assigned to them. âBecauseâ Matt says âI have more Legendary weapons that map locations. More will show up soon. Honestly, Iâm getting as bored with the current ones are you guys are. Also, there are more than these. This is just a collection of the ones that Iâm preparing to work into the game.â

âTHE WHITE FORESTâ
Weapon: The Wood Splitter.

Boardsword. Handle and hilt are some kind of extremely dense wood. The double-edged blade is a dark grey and has the image of a tree carved into it. Sword can regenerate damage it takes in battle. Defended by the Legendary Widepad, an ape-type boss who lives in the woods. Cannot be found during the day.

âFLATWATER LAKEâ
Weapon: The Aqua Lance

Lance/javelin. Can absorb water-based attacks and reflect them back at enemies. Acts as a normal blade, but does much more damaged when dipped in water before battle. Defended by the Lady of the Lake, a Sea Huntress with a steel, blade-tipped helmet. Can only be found by being called.

âROOK ISLANDâ
Weapon: The King and Queen, The Skull Buster

One short, thick sword (The King) with a collapsible handle and stone blade. One longer, thinner blade (The Queen) with a retracting hilt and a stone blade. It can be dual-wielded by Warriors and Barbarians.

Can be combined to create the Skull Buster, a buster-type sword with a stone blade and iron hilt. Extremely heavy, can be wielded only by Knights and Warriors. Guarded by the King and Queen chess bosses of Rook Island. Can only be found by having a second key.

A pair of elbow-length gauntlets. One has a retracting blade, the other has a retracting hook. Built for Thief classes, designed for long combo attacks. Gauntlet exterior can be used to deflect damage.

Very long and thin sword. Weighs almost nothing to the user, deals massive non-armor damage. Razor-sharp and extremely fast.
