The Two Castles

~The Story~
The story begins with Castle Terrus, the greatest landmark in the world of Terra Novus. The castle itself was over a mile wide and housed thousands upon thousands of citizens. The King was a just and honorable man and ruled his kingdom from his castle in an age of peace that spanned nearly a thousand years. All was quiet and calm. Then, as with all stories, a single man became prideful. He saw that the King was aged and vulnerable. He was living in a generation that had never heard of war, much less seen it. He forced his way to the throne room and demanded the king bow to him. The King drew his sword. Enraged, the man vowed that he would not rest until Terrus had fallen.

The days grew dark after that. Swords were forged. Speeches were given. Hatred and envy grew. The King and the Man built their armies continually. The citizens of Castle Terrus experienced fear for the first time. An era of war and hatred was coming. The King, in his wisdom, knew that he could stop the oncoming war by stopping the Man behind it. He challenged him to a duel on the tallest tower. He accepted at once. When he arrived, the King grabbed him, disarmed him and threw himself, along with the Man, from the tower to their death.

The result was chaos. The armies, both bent on avenging their fallen leader, decimated each other. The mighty Castle Terrus fell. Each side retreated from each other to the edge of Terra Novus. There they decided to build their own castle. One for the Kingdom and the future restoration of peace, and one for Anarchy and the future destruction of peace.

Ages and ages passed, each side building a greater and taller and mightier castle. Each passed to the next generation their quest: to build the castle and fight. However, as the generations passed, that message faded away. Now, the castle residents live as they please, enjoying the freedom from the influence of the other castle. This is where your story begins: in the age of the Two Castles.

~The Rules~
READ THEM

-This is an adventure RPG. You will be fighting monsters, finding chests, solving Dungeons, killing bosses and earning all kinds of epic Legendary gear. It is divided into classes and involves turn-based combat. If thatâs what youâre looking for, this is it.
-No profanity, crude language, lewd comments, etc.
-No spam, trolling, etc.
-No âgod-modding.â You are not a superpowered Destroyer of Worlds. You are a human.
-Use correct grammar and spelling. Donât expect much from me if you donât try.
-This is a level-based game with level-based weapons. You will start at L1, which means all your weapons will be L1. You can ONLY equip weapons/armor at your level. You have a 10-Item inventory to store items until later use, along with a Castle Vault (more on that later)
-No hunger, thirst, stamina or exhaustion stats. Yay!
-Players who played the previous version, âEpicâs Tactical Base vs Base Strategy RPG,â will receive a Starter Pack bonus (more below)

~The Game~
You are a Hero of the Kingdom or a Hero of the Anarchy. Each side has a castle. For a very basic reference, imagine the original Red-vs-Blue âHALOâ map. Neither side has superior elements. Names will be changed on weapons and enemies may be different, but nothing significant.
You are loyal to your Castle and your Castle alone. You cannot defect.
This what you do:
Travel to different locations (on the Active Map) to fight monsters, explore dungeons, etc.
Explore the Castle (your castle is old and full of secrets. Locked doors, hidden rooms, etc).
Upgrade the Castle (to access more rooms and other things)
Buy/Sell at the Castle or at Towns
Be awesome.

~The Game Master~
I am Matt, and I am the GM. I will be controlling the environments, the bosses, the EXP and the dropped items. I will update this game at least once a day. I have added a âMessage Boardâ section to the GM Sheet (it lists all the elements of the game per day) to ask me questions or make suggestions, such as âCan I use this weapon?â or âI think you need more elemental monsters.â If you complain, complain there. If you complain frequently, you will be dealt with. I am, ultimately, the final authority on this game. Donât freak out, I always reply to comments and I will provide hints if you need them.

There will be action, comedy, cut-scenes (for boss kills) and hidden references. I may throw out a âGuess this thing, get 200 EXPâ every so often. You may find shout-outs to movies or video games along the way. If you have a good idea for a new weapon/armor/boss, post it in my âMessage Boardâ section.

~The Sheets~
There are several sheets you will see and you need to understand them. Iâll post all of them right off.

GM Sheet: This gives the day, weather, time, castle stats, character sheets, and several other important elements. Pay attention to this. When it is rainy, you wonât be able to see monsters as quickly. When it is dark, more monsters will spawn. Etc.

Class Sheet: This gives the templates for all classes, along with a description of each.

The Store: All available items, plus prices.

The Starter Packs: Previous players can choose TWO (yes, I changed it to TWO) of the following:
-Your previous Level (to find better weapons and armor and such)!
-Any one weapon or armor item!
-Your previous location (if you were in a dungeon or something)!
-Your companion or pet!
-A 50% Coupon for all (yes, ALL) Castle Store items (the Level limit still applies, donât buy L8 armor if youâre L5)! This is called the â50-POCâ (50 percent off coupon) and it is an Inventory item.

Good News: The Castles will NOT be attacked or breached anytime soon, so don't spend Gold on defeneses. Go adventuring.

The chest is locked from the inside, it seems. It cannot be forced open. This is your first official puzzle room.

@rick
You lift the small mallet and strike the bell. Nothing happens for a short time. Then you see a movement under the water. Something wearing very light blue clothing whisks past you, circling the island. Out of seemingly nowhere, a massive eye, at least four inches wide, opens under the water and stares at you. The pupil is a crystal blue with a black mix. A voice, or maybe it is just in your head, says "What is your business with me?"

@Gamer
Hang on, need to fix something. Selphy's health, MP and EXP are way off.

Name: Selphy (Gamer), 650 HP, 200 MP

Armor: Monster Fur (L3)
Inventory (3/10): Arrows (-/-), Defense Book (L3: Healing 500 HP [50 MP]), Archerâs Poison Vial (L2)

I think that's right...man it's confusing sometimes.

You approach one of the caves to the left. It's extremely dark and you can see only a few feet ahead of you. From behind you comes a screech of some kind. You turn just in time to see a scorpion the size of a wolf crawl out of a hole and head towards you and Selphy!

You forgot your default weapon. *facepalm* I...ehg nevermind, I stuck it in your inventory. I'll add your sheet to the GM Sheet next time I update.

You enter the White Forest (L1). It's a peaceful, well-lit place, with paths criss-crossing and trees placed at random. Everything is green but the tree trunks, which are a pale white. There are a few hedges too tall to jump that form a bit of a wall on your right. Ahead, the path widens. A wooden signpost is stuck in the ground. Two arrows, pointing in opposite directions, are nailed to it with words. Well, they used to be. The two arrows are now lying on the ground, and they are pointing randomly. Someone with a mean sense of humor removed them and tossed them on the path.

You have only trees for cover. You duck behind the next one up and notch an arrow. A few seconds later, you hear a rustle in the top of your tree. You fire an arrow into the leaves and hear a *thump*, followed by a sharp scream. A strange creature drops out of the tree, backflips and lands on a lower limb. It has very long arms and legs and a long tail, but it has thumbs and a sinister human face. It is carrying a short, thorny bow and a small quiver of arrows. Your arrow is protruding from its leg. The creature reaches down and jerks the arrow out and throws it away.

What, no battle stats? Huh. Well, I shoot another arrow and get behind my tree.

The man on the floor groans. He has lost a considerable amount of blood. He points to a dresser on one wall. âMiddle drawer...white box...â

I quickly head to where he pointed and look for what he wanted, a white box. Once I've found the box, I'll bring it to him.

Ps. Thanks, I read the description, but wanted to clarify, you didn't say anything about a procedure, and not needing MP, to add to it. It was a just in case thing, sorry to bother.

The room is long and rectangular. Thick wooden poles are set up with bars for hand combat training. At the end of the room is a tall Barbarian, sharpening a sword with a whetstone. He sees you approach. âHa! What have we! A mage to learn the art of swordsmanship? You may find yourself in the wrong place, my friend!â He examines your Mage Staff. âHmph. That could well be a weapon if handled properly. Would you be interested in
learning how to fight with it?â

"You laugh, but wouldn't a warrior, no matter his class, want to gain a full range of expertise to better himself in battle?" I say, with a friendly smirk. "If you could train me, it would be most appreciated"

You step back to get it to ram the tree again, but the wolf isnât that foolish and anticipates the move. He slides around the tree and slashes, dealing 5! You swing the Keyblade and catch him in the skull, dealing 20!

Thing is, I wasn't going for a tree. I just wanted him to run past me. I try kicking up the dirt at it's face to blind it, then attack it to finish it off with True Light's Flight.

(Note: You are a high enough level, but you have a low-level weapon. Plus, arrow-based weapons donât work well against metal or shell armor. Story:

=DAY 8/8. The sun is setting. Be aware.=

@Shadow
The elf smirks and tosses you an orb. âClever tools, they are. Very popular with Summoners. Want to hear a secret?â He looks left and right dramatically. âThey donât work on Legendary creatures. That may not surprise you. Which is why Arion (you know who he is, right?) made his own version...Anyways, best day to you!â He picks the broom up and begins vigorously sweeping the pavement again.
Inventory: (2/10) M Capture Orb (@50), 50-POC, Gold (0)

Iâm going to add a few quests to the Elf village because Iâm having trouble thinking of ways for players to earn Gold. Check their Bounty Board (newly installed) if you want.

@Kyle
The Panthers looks hard at you with his deep golden eyes. He chuckles quietly. âIndeed it is. I donât know how you knew that, but there doesnât seem to be much point in the training, since youâve apparently passed it already. You may take the TnT if you want.â He steps aside and the door re-appears.

@Bluydee
You press the Man tile. It clicks, but nothing happens. You selected the wrong tile. The door to this room opens and the chest and table, to your surprise, vanish in a cloud of thin grey smoke. (Don't flip out. This is only the first floor of the first Dungeon. There are two doors to account for screw-ups).
Door 1: Failed
Door 2: X (Locked)
Door 3: ???

@rick
The eye stares at you, as though searching for other intentions. âNone have called me without intentions. You have called me, yes?â the voice says. It sounds feminine and warm. âI am the Lady of the Lake.â

@Max
The cabinet holds a white box with a red mark in the shape of a blood splash. You hand it to the man, who jerks it open and wraps himself in gauze and uses a Heal potion or two. âAhg. Thatâs a bit better.â He stands up slowly, then stretches. Heâs taller than you and significantly more muscular. âI knew she was hiding in my cellar. Just couldnât get her to come out. Looks like she got the better of me, eh?â He looks at your robe. âA Mage of the Kingdom! A sight indeed!â

@pang
The Barbarian looks surprised, then laughs. âHa! Feeling polite today, are we? Very well, Iâll see what I can do.â He removes the staff from yours arms with almost no effort, then examines it closely and tosses it to himself. He grunts, unimpressed, but he goes to a large closet and rummages through it. A few seconds later he emerges with a similar, but larger and thicker, Mage Staff (L2). âSeeing as youâre a Mage, you probably didnât get much into actually fighting with your stick. Itâs a rather versatile tool, though, when used as a staff. You can strike with it to attack or block with it to defend. Which would you like to learn?â

Until now, towns didnât have quests, sidequests, missions, etc. because I always put myself into the game and ask âwould I want to have to do this if I was playing?â Since I am short on finding ways for players to get Gold, Iâm going to add a few quests to the only existing town (Scarborough in the White Forest), and probably a Bounty Board to each Castle. Itâs still in the works. If you have a good sidequest/mission idea, post it here.

More good news! Besides a specific kind of monster, every area has a variety of Goblin infesting it. Cliché? Maybe, but the Goblins have gold pouches to steal....

@rick
The eye stares at you, as though searching for other intentions. âNone have called me without intentions. You have called me, yes?â the voice says. It sounds feminine and warm. âI am the Lady of the Lake.â

I don't know, I guess I was just expecting some big serpent monster thing to come to try and kill me. But here I am, talking to a giant eye, not sure about what to do next. If you're asking about my intentions, I suppose I'm just searching for honor and glory, probably like every other adventurer to ever ring the bell :/
