Both 1 and 2, but preferably 1. Although obviously 2 had superior graphics, I only recently played it so the first is one of those childhood memories that always haunt you. They should of just continued on with System Shock instead of making the Bio shock series. So anyone ever play it or hear of it?

Nonsense, Bioshock is a fantastic game and a standard-bearer for the medium's storytelling potential. If System Shock is similar, it must be a good game.
System Shock was made in 1994 so if you can handle "inferior graphics" it is. It is a cyber-punk sci-fi action rpg, and had a lot of revolutionary things in it for it's time.
after i saw some screenshots i remember i played it sometime. but nothing more really. at that time i was more into adventure and platformers and not so much into shooters. that came a few year latter whit unreal and quake.
