they decide your rank in the community. Just click your profile name to see it. They are working on unlockables for certain ranks (I only heard that) but for now it really doesn't mean much.

Armor points dont decide anything, they just show how much you been in the community or how much you been playing.

oh wait, they're coming out with stuff that is unlocked when you reach a certain amount of armour points, eventually, Armatars and such :D
