Am I the only one who dislikes text-based MMOs (ex. Mob Wars, Zombie Slayer, etc.) as a genre? They seem to be not only a boring idea, but overdone (almost as much as RTS) and usually not well. Sorry if this offends anyone who likes these, but I can't be the only one...

quite the opposite here. i like them and it saddens me to see them getting less common over the years.though i would prefer seeing more variety than *insert random criminal activity theme here* games. i mean really, i see more gang/drug/pimp and vampire/werewolf games in the text based genre than anything these days.

I loved them, only a select few which are well done; my entertainment value from them tends to come from the storyline and the satisfaction of slowly building up an account. I quit a game once it becomes a little too commercialised for my taste, when the story threads becoming poor and seem rushed. I hope DotD doesn't end up that way.

There's one game that I'll never get sick of though; it's a little different from those you have mentioned. Kingdom of Loathing is a delightful treasure of a game, with its quirky humor, and adorable stickman graphics. Maybe you can give it a try sometime.

Okay i do play Kingdom of Loathing, which is the one text-based game I actually enjoy. The stupid puns, dry and sometimes insensitive humor, and etc. really make that game great. I just don't like most text-base games.

well, with the wave of incremental games made popular thanks to cookie clicker and reddit theres plenty of those to try out. only 1, dripstat, is setup as a mmo of sorts currently, it has a global score everyone adds to so theres that too but with the delayed release of new features following the lvl 3 point (around a week or 2 ago) its slowing down a good bit.

in dripstat the "currency" is memory (bytes, kb, mb, gb, tb, pb...). lvl 3 had a 100tb goal, lvl4 (the current lvl) has a goal of 100pb and with only the current features thats...a long long way off and may end up killing it if nothing changes :/ maybe, not 100% sure.

Back in the days that internet gaming is still primitive, some of us gamers did partake on text-based online games like Utopia. Fortunately, technology cope up fast enough for us to enjoy games where we don't have to rely on our imagination.

necro post but what you pointed out is also a problem since now the focus is primarily on graphics rather than gameplay in video games in general. not too long ago i saw a video on youtube comparing the graphics from ps3 dark souls 2 to pc dark souls 2. pointless arguing of which was better ensued quite predictably.

main thing going for the xbone, ps4, and maybe the wii u? graphics and thats mostly all devs care about these days. heck, i used to barely be able to run the MMOFPS game warframe on my laptop but after missing a bunch of updates the graphics are now beyond my laptop. real nice devs, that really sucked because i liked that game due to it seemingly being a great mix of ninja gaiden and the normal FPS aspects but until i eventually get a desktop computer its dead to me.

with text based games you had nothing except gameplay, graphics were non-existent and ANYONE could play them at ANY time on ANY setup. nowadays your always having to keep and eye on the system requirements just to try new games and developers are always trying to push things further giving little chance to catch up. (fully update a computer and i bet 1 week or less later it'll need updating overall again so its always a game of catch up).

Hello, I noticed your conversation on text-based games. I recently found one witha samurai theme. I think it's quite clever. The developer works hard to bring out quickly new updates. But as I said it's a very new game with potential. It's called Samurai Senshi. Do you may be know it? Tell me what you think about it

I have to say Corruption Of Champions is likely one of my favorite Text-Based Games.

never heard of samurai senshi, and corruption of champions is a h-game dude. not sure if talking about porn games (text based or otherwise) is allowed on the forums here. probably isn't

edit: energy bars... UGH, i hate tick based text based games like that. ok so i'll be able to do a few actions then wait several hours to do anything again. I HATE ENERGY BARS, THEY DEFINE WAIT-TO-PLAY! >
