In case you are wondering, what he meant is that it is difficult to understand how the universe works, but the way it works itself is simple and beautiful. He believed this because of equations he found out which looked like: E = mc^2 instead of something like E = m*3/17*c^(e + 10^1.4567980). Obviously the first equation, is simple, despite beign hard to find and prove.
