The Hero

Do you remember me, my son?
I used to sing you lullabies,
And every time I heard your cries
I came to calm you down.
I had no time to give you much.
You were a toddler when the planes
Came withought warning. In the haste
I left you only books, and such.
I rode away, rifle in hand
To fight and sacrifise my life
For you...
And for our charming land.
Do you remember me, my love?
I'm there in every tree and stone,
And in the misty sky above...
I've lost my life, and yet I've won.

THE CURSE

I remember the light of stars.
I remember darkness falling,
And us, failing.

I remember the mistakes made,
And I remember our successes,
In the light of dawn.

If 'Forever' is so long,
It is only long enough
To learn what there is to learn,

And if I sit here and watch,
Will I learn from you,
Or cry?

We learn from our mistakes,
Then repeat them,
Again.

Memory is a cursed thing,
For if we remembered everything,
We would never wage War again,
And never give birth,

But I remember the joys,
And I remember the pains,
And I remember your smile,
And even if your tears burn,

I know it was all worthwhile.

Edited to actually fit the prompt, my bad.

-----------------------------------
His Happy Days

He sits, and across from him
he looks onward at prospects dim
Remembering the days where he lacked this infliction
Now propagating his sad depiction
He thinks long and hard of his decision
As he undergoes deep division
Soaking in his sea of sadness
Undergoing a mighty test
Of which he only gave his best
Of which was judged by all the rest

He thinks of the misfortune
As he looks at his gun
But he sees their faces
A sense of loss in their cases
He regrets ever having to make this choice
He stands up, proclaims in a low voice

"I must not yield
in this mental battlefield."

Slowly, but effectively, emptiness he destroys
'Twas not easy but was employed

With happy friends
His life now, no sighted end
No longer caught in his daze
A fiery passion ablaze
He now spends his happy days
Like the ones he spent before
where only happiness bore.

Thoughts Composed on our Ineffable Journey

Had we but time to spend and share.
To dole out without consequence, so that
We too may take up arms against the flow of time;
That ineffable tide. Then, I too, would compose
Such thoughts as yet to be heard.

Alas, the tide rolls in and out. Never ceasing,
For to cease is to never be; and to never have been.
And, had we time to spend and share, to
Stare blissfully unaware at that crystalline sky;
Then, I too, would lay down to rest.

All these things to come, those that have gone,
Those that are. Hold fast. Hold fast, so that you
Too may have time to spend and share. To gaze upon
That last setting sun, to feel that sea breeze,
To walk those winding steps and say,
"I too, have seen it done."

I've maked one finally !! :

In case of:

Shock Of Memories

When you thinking about your memories..
It's never easy, but you can be gifted !
You're probably searching for a sanctuary ?
But this time you will be disappointed !

Thinking about past, enjoyed for the last.
You will probably fall into the deep..
It will be painfull ! Emotional blast !
Thought it was a dream ? Sadly you're not asleep..

All those people who died, wasn't a lie..
Wandering, you asked why ? Started to cry !
Yum yum yum ! They were eaten like a pie !

Asking what's better to do just right now !
Revenge ? Scavenge ? Maybe take the challenge ?
You're not prepared for change ! Wondering how ?

So what's your plan now ?
You have passed through darkness..
Starting to see light !

The intensity is really mighty..
Wake up, you need to know what's behind !
If you decided to stay, that's a pity..
Darkness will caught you again, you're now blind !

Always here !? Seems you've decided pass through.
You started to see when you was a child..
Listening some laugh, that one can't get enough !
Walking more, memories started gone wild !

Finally reached a recent memory.
Probably your best, remember four days..
during which you've never be as happy !

Now you have surpassed your dark emotions !
Maybe you had also found your life goal ?
Create more good memories, with passion !!

Great entries everyone! A lot of deep poems here, it took me awhile but I think I've finally decided.

Runner Up

@KatPryde

A Trip Down Memory Lane

My flashlight is dim,
Batteries near depleted,
Fails to pierce the dusk.

Vague phantasms linger,
Just out of reach of the light,
Refuse all longing.

Blurred shapes they possess,
But nebulous like putty,
Defy perception.

I focus on one,
Nearest, least oblivious,
Shrink from my object.

It exudes feelings,
Dim familiarity,
Lacks any fullness.

A key there must be,
Unlocking this door broken,
Slips into Babel.

So alone stand I,
Entranced and irresolute,
Repulse this icon.

The presence attracts,
A friend, much loved, long absent,
Thrusts toward abyss.

Interest succumbs,
Energy ebbing slowly,
Rejects solution.

My flashlight darkens,
Illumination destroyed,
Leaves a ghost dwelling.

Your poem of combined haikus once again has left me amazed. I love your use of words here. The story being told behind the dramatic picture being painted was amazing. Indeed it was a trip down memory lane, the title taken literally, but still having an essence of it's own meaning. Great job!

The story that I get from this is like seeing one blissful memory, one amazing experience. That is the picture that is painted in my mind. Your use of words and your vocabulary is also beautiful. Overall, just amazing.

I appreciate the compliments to my work, SirLegendary. The theme for the next round will be: Consequences of Honesty. A brief note, should the theme be misconstrued, not all consequences are of a negative variety.
