I have been noticing a lot of poetry on the site recently, and I thought it would be nice to have a friendly little poetry competition. There will be a weekly theme, and the entries will be judged by one of the moderators or administrators. This week's theme will be "Water." The deadline is Saturday, August 2nd. The winner will be awarded 25 Armor Points.

Erm, what exactly does work mean? the physics definition? or productive labor/employment? or both?

It means whatever you want it to mean, you can mold it to be more of a topic that you like, as long as there is a feasible connection.

The winning poems will be posted here, where they will receive their merit and be able to show off their winning work! I can't wait to see what other great submissions we get!

Work all day
--

Men working in the fields,
womens' hands serving meals,
Children laugh and play,
they do not work all day,
So strange is work,
to be a lowly clerk,
eight hours of stress,
only to have enough for dress,
small breaks in the day,
to try and relieve our dismay,
we all want to have fun everyday,
but the iron wall of work is in the way.

Just an update, we are adding a New Rule!

We all know that the poem must be original, but it also must be created for the competition. This makes it more fair, since this is a time-based competition.

Keep up the great entries!

A white sea
-------

That sea of white,
Spreading across the horizon,
Seemingly bigger than oceans,
Deeper than mysteries,
The anchor that keeps you stuck to a desk.
Drowning in a sea of white.
When you could be enjoying life
all that you feel ahead
is that sea of white.
It is there too buy your food
That sea of paper supports you
All the while killing you.
And the truth is
you simply are
drowning in a sea of white.

Ok Dragon Mistress, this time I just wrote a fresh poem for the topic.

A Warm Spring Day

A red sun shining on a warm spring day
The boy struggles within the dense fray
Pressure from others, telling him what to do
This way or the other; which will he choose?

Immediate joy with the friends he so loves
Or immediate work into which he is shoved?
Pushed around and tired by the tasks he is fed
Or happily living, no cares, no tears to be shed?

So he forsakes his wise parents and his sister at home
Runs away happily with ease and shirking his throne
He party's by night and sleeps through the day
But a large cloud is threatening to blanket with gray

Time now is passing; a boy he's no more
And into adulthood, what treasures are in store?
Scavenging for food; living day to day
This is the return for putting forth no pay

Now his days are cloudy, and filled with much misery
Suddenly he sees his sister through eyes that are teary
She stands beneath a red sun shining on a warm spring day
Her life now a pleasant rest, from the price already paid

Yeah...I think I was high when I wrote that poem. What I meant to say was that work is crap and you should party your whole life XD, lol jk. Even I must admit that it is worth the trouble to get a nice job...then you can party! yay

Work huh? I'm going to drop something unofficial because it was lulz.

I know you need extension

I'm sick of my thesis, stuck to a deadline,
Don't need this from morning to bedtime,
Glued to my desk in front of my laptop,
No rest, no wonder I'm called Strop,
Slapping down lines commit grammatical crimes,
My mind keeps drifting to these wicked rhymes,
And I keep hitting backspace, sweat on my face, soon,
I'll be too late, my grades will be ruined,
Why did I let myself procrastinate,
Now, I'm at the mercy of cruel fate,
It's a catch twenty two when it got you it screws-
Your whole life up (it got me!) too,
Display the clock like a red alert,
Time waits for no man, so get to work,
Yet I'm still bludging, I'll get to fudging-
The refs., so let's lay bets and I'll still come up-
Around to the word count, I'm finding some good stuff I can-
Plug in the paper this ain't fit in a stapler,
Four ring binder, a digital viewfinder,
For fifty two pages, that goes on for ages,
Paste in the pics, an appendix,
I hope I don't need the hyperlinks,
When I'm finished, I need a proofreader stat,
With skills, like a beaureaucrat,

I'm going mad.

(Get it? It's a reference to I Know You got Soul hehe :P)
