Georgia invaded South Ossetia. Russia felt It needed to do just a little more then defending

South Ossetia was Georgian sovereign territory. There were separatists South Ossetian rebels in the area causing trouble and so Georgia responded by sending in their army. The Russians used the excuse that they had Russian passports to invade Georgia. Reminiscent of Hitler 'liberating' the Sudetenland claiming he was protecting his own civilians.

What other reason did Russia have other them to protect? Mmm, they got nothing out of it.

Most South Ossetians wanted to leave Georgia.

When have the Russians ever done anything out of good natured ideals in the past.

Mmm, they got nothing out of it.

Not true they now control the main Georgian seaports and have claimed many resources. They have also obtained a sphere of influence in Georgia and maybye even new territory if the South Ossetians choose to be absorebed.

That may be, however that is not an excuse for the Russians to completely disregard all the international treaties forbidding behaviour and border infringements of this kind.

This was inevitable, really.
This is the way ALL of mankind is, not just Russia. Whatever we have is not enough - we need MOAR.

Well i agree with the fact that mankind does always want more. When you look back over history that seems to be the case. However i think this particular conflict was easily aviodable. Sackashvili was a fool but Russia overeacted. It was typical of how a war starts. Someone said( i cant remember who) that war starting is a series of misjudgements and miscalculations and in my opinion that can certainly be applied here.

in my school sum 1 read an article about that

the u.s.a. sent over a warship full of humanitary aid for georgia

this was just before we had told Russia to get out of georgia
so now russia upset at the u.s.a. since we had a warship right next to em rihgt after we told them to leave

srry for double post but the problem with Russi'a army is that they have stockpiles of weapons but not enough trained men to use them

That has been the problem with Russias army for years and years however  i dont see how the russian armies problems relates to this as they clearly had no problem overrunning georgia.
