Most people have heard of the Red Arrows, for those who haven't, they are the world class aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force.

They have been banned from doing a performance at the 2012 Olympics in London. The reason being is that the idea is "too British" and "too linked to the military" They think it will offend other countries.

What do you all think.

I think the Olympics are all about national pride. The country that hosts the olympics basically gets the chance to showcase their country and teach the world about it. I don't think it's wrong. i would love to see a national team that does something fro the pride of their country. I have no problem with it. I am Polish, and Live in California, btw. So you know what my background is.

Wow , those are amazing! Who banned them? Thats stupid, the hosting country should be able to display whatever they like. Maybe they feel that it is more a display of military power...but i don't think it is, i think it is more skillful and artistic than anything. Its not like they are dropping bombs and making designs with them.

This is what I don't understand. It was there own country that banned them. And I can tell you that those planes aren't even used to drop bombs, they are just trainers for new pilots normally.

...

...and how can you do this without making yourself seem better than other countries?

Well thats what you want to do, show off how good your country is. Wen you have guests over for a dinner party for example, you clean up the house make it look pretty and well put together and serve and treat your guests well right? So in essence you are showing off. You normally don't live in a sparkling clean palace, but you want to show off to your guests. Thats what countries do for the Olympics.

Exactly, so banning them is like not cleaning your house and been rude to your guests, who would not want to come back again.
