I as looking around at www.adobe.com and saw that they had a flex program. What is flex? Any help would be grateful. If Flex is sort of like making a small game, I'll try that before making an actual game. Please help me.

You can use it with FlashDevelop. Follow the tutorials on MrSunStudios and on gamepoetry.
I just started to use it, and it's pretty good.

The Flex IDE allows you to compile AS3 code into .swf format. It is capable of anything Flash can do, it just doesn't have the GUI capabilities as in Flash.

You get code in AS3, which is short for Action Script 3.0, Flash programming language, compile it into a .SWF, which is the file ready for publish

However, it doesn't have Flash's GUI, the Graphical User Interface
