I was close there, and djforbes, I'm geussing that your riddle is, well, if you can have a male maid, the sun/son.

Sorry for double post, but I clicked post too soon. Here is my reasoning:

The sun is brighter than a normal face.
The sun can displace water through evaporation.
A maid (female) can have a son.
A maid (male) can be a son.

there was a pistol in the bag and the heat caused it to misfire and it shot him in the back and went through and hit his heart and he fell over forward

Ubertuna, nice reasoning from many angles but incorrect I'm afraid.

Son/sun almost works but doesn't quite fit ('maid' section [def: female domestic servant] and you swapped 'lighter' for 'brighter' ... although that word combo would make a good riddle in its own right

wolfman: I'm intrigued as to how you wear your pyjamas if they fit in your body :P
