I love graffiti and have done my whole life, so here's a thread about it.

Tagging is the calligraphic writing of one's name or alias. It is generally regarded as the earliest form of graffiti. No outline involved in the leter forms. Generally the fewer the syllables the better. Taggers write their own name/crew name. Some go for clarity, others let the can drip on purpose='drippers'.

Throw-ups consist of single letter outlines, executed at speed, sometimes just a single stroke and filled in with a solitary colour. There are tons of styles out there, most frequent is the 'bubble style' ie round forms.Block lettering from a can or with rollers or 'block busters' are in this category. Images eg faces/figures can be throw ups too.

Pieces are, in a nutshell, more detailed versions of throw ups. Very personal to the writers usually using modified letterforms of some kind. Can be done in 'wildstyle' - staright lettering, as in 70s NYC writers, but are seldom used nowadays.

Productions are pieces or a series of pieces tied together with a common background background. Often written by crews.

Here's an example of all of the above.

(Footnote: Pieces and Productions are generally coloured in((but not always)), but due to laziness issues they remain in black and white.)

...which would suck if it did D:

Lol, indeed. I understand why that may be, this being a kids siite and all, but, it's hardly a graphic depiction, of something which is, after all, just another part of the body.

There's this law in Australia:

This reminded me. When I visited Sydney last year I took some pics of some excellent graffiti I saw there. Would it be ok if I posted them? Although it's not my work, they are my pics, so would I have permission to post them.

Wow.

This stuff is amazing. I thought about doing a peice on a big peice of wood that I have in my garage, but I have no art stuff.

Since I don't see explicit nipples (cue giggling) I'm just going to do nothing

Posted as photography, I suppose! Unless the original artist has somehow made some written statement somewhere that no copies of their work could be reproduced in any way or form...which I somehow doubt.

Before different colours were properly manufactured, I used to mix the paints myself. You should try car paints if all else fail. They are quite easy to come by, most garages will have them. They are pretty cheap and scrape off the surface quite nicely.

The graffiti art I am referring to was done illegally, so do the artists have the right to withold people from using their images?

Anywho here is my the graffiti I saw when going round Sydney whilst on my travels, enjoy! There are quite a few images, so bear with me, I only posted the most impressive pieces.

Graffiti from the Land of Oz

Some nice lettering (that handsome fella behind the bin is yours truly)

This is a nice colab I saw, with some nice characters dotted in it. O there's that handsome fella again!

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2239/ozgraffcolab.jpg

Here's a very impressive mural, a nice style.

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9720/ozgraffmural.jpg

Some more lettering, I liked the fill in this a lot.

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/4595/ozgraffpiece2.jpg

A nice piece, with nice lettering.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6273/ozgraffpiece6.jpg

Some nice characters, especially the cat.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7922/ozgraffcat.jpg

Another mural, I really liked this one especially the border.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5219/ozgraffmural2.jpg

Some nice looking lettering, with an especially nice looking fella next to it.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/2927/ozgraffpiece3.jpg

Great character, I always think religious graff looks cool.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8357/ozgraffcharacter1.jpg

Good piece, with some nice bits.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8575/ozgraffking.jpg

This was probably me 2nd favourite piece I saw in Oz. I really liked the donkey character, some decent lettering too, with nice fill.

This mural was probably the best graffiti I saw when in Australia. From the date, I am assuming it is a tribute to all the Anzac servicemen and women who died fighting in Gallipoli. As far as my understanding goes, it is a very important thing for Australians, their equivalent of the Somme. Sobering and excellently realised.

Well that's all folks, but stay tuned, I recently found my camera from when I went travelling and have pics of graffiti the world over, next time, graff from South America.

Ah, those Oz pics were along the promenade of Bondi beach! (I lived in Sydney for 17 years, so it's not just based on the bin that has BONDI printed on it...) I agree that has to be some of the best but I could show you around various walls in Summer Hill, Newtown and Redfern that are also very impressive. But yeah, for any reason Bondi Beach is the must see- now if only there was a sunny day that the beach itself wasn't a complete wall of bodies...

Mural art as a whole is actually pretty big in Sydney, but not at all in Melbourne. That's one thing I noticed.

Graff from South America, I bet they'd have a heck of a lot more religiously themed stuff.

Yes, I really want to see some of the street art from North America's little brother

North America's little brother

I bet you'd call Canada the US' hat, too, while you're at it.

How is South America North America's little brother?

Ummm. . .I really have no idea, just messing around. In fact, South America was settled first (I think, there aren't the best history classes here.)

Erp. . .forgot to add, but Canada is part of North America, and so is Mexico, so the assumption of the "America's hat" joke was conceptually logical, but logically only slightly correlates.

That's cool. Sydney was my favourite part of Australia I visited.

Yea they sure do. They also have a lot more football based stuff (I refuse to say soccer).

Football...oh yeah, that's a Pom thing :P

But there's this strange thing called the Australian Football League played only by Australians, which prevents me from using the same terminology!

Yeah, I realised halfway through making the jibe, hence using "US" instead of "America" :P

Either way, if you ever consider calling Australia America's "sheriff in the Pacific" or anything like that...*shifts Thor*

...my apologies for this off-topic post. Lions in dreads are dreadfully difficult to colour!

Good ol' nationalistic labeling.

Are you reffering to Aussie Rules? If so, I am a big fan. It's the only non fighting sport that replays fights in slow motion. Fantastic stuff.

How about Britain's best and largest prison *braces self for Thor's impact*.

I can imagine, doing each strand would take a while.

No, nothing like that. Australia is too cool to be the USA's Sheriff in the Pacific. I've always wanted to go there

Hmmmmmmm. . .a lot more futbol-themed stuff? Interesting. . .all that I ever see here where I live is the occasional dripper that says "Choke," because there's a local small gang called Choke.
--------
Australia would technically be "Britain's Pacific Warden," not "America's Sheriff in the Pacific." *readies also for ninja pony attack*
