I only go to a single GameStop for all my games, and the one I go to I practically know the people who work at the cash registers, and honestly its nothing like the ones you are describing. The taking stolen games thing is the only thing I know they may have done before, but I remember once I tried to sell a game that has not been opened yet to that GameStop and they would not take it because any unopened games are considered stolen. They told me that the FBI had set up recording cameras to make sure that the people at the registers do not take in those type of games. I have never met anyone there that actually acted rude(or at any GameStop for that matter)
Every time I go in there, somebody will ask me, "Do you want to reserve a game?, "Do you want a GI subscription?", "Do you--SHUT UP! I know it's their job, but if I want to do any of that, I will tell you, don't constantly pester me about it.
There are much worse company policies then that, that employees are forced to implement on their customers, yet you complain about the ones from GameStop? I do have to deal with this myself, but it doesn't bother me as much as all those people at restaurants that welcome you with some annoying welcoming message(its not bad the first time but after a while it gets repetitive) but whatever the case its not that bad to me.
I went to buy a 360 about 6 months ago. One of the five stores I lived next to only had Elites in and I didn't have enough money for an Elite. The 4 other stores were out of 360's as well. How the hell could ALL of them be out of 360's? We're talking about 5 stores here people, 5.
I heard Microsoft was doing some production manipulation lately to get people to buy the more expensive versions of the 360's, but to me it was about cutting out the regular elites with limited edition ones. Microsoft probably just has not shipped the systems to that area yet, and if you went to all of those stores on the same day and they are all GameStop's then they probably all get new shipments in at the same time. On top of that they could be either popular in that area or there was some sort of recall or something. There are plenty of reasons why they could have been out of 360's besides it being just the stores fault. In my area they had more of a shortage on Nintendo Wii's when they came out, but I have not heard of any other such shortages.
Now I will admit the corporation GameStop has its issue, mainly because its a corporation, and being such they do whatever they can to make more money, and care very little for their consumers, unless it helps them make more money, so any policies they follow are the fault of greedy CEO's most likely, and the people who work at these stores much of the time go there as their first job some times, and tend to try and not get fired, so they try to follow the policies forced down their throats.
Every time I go in there, somebody will ask me, "Do you want to reserve a game?, "Do you want a GI subscription?", "Do you--SHUT UP! I know it's their job, but if I want to do any of that, I will tell you, don't constantly pester me about it.
It's their job to offer me stuff. I shouldn't have to ask.
So let me get this straight you want them to not offer stuff...yet offer other stuff that they are not told to offer by the corporation? Did you actually think that through?
Anyways I'm sure that most stores are not like the ones in my area, but honestly its better then Wal-mart where the people in the game section are practically in their all in their 30's and are playing game demos instead of helping customers.
