I think this guide can help somebody who want be the ultimate navigator. ;)

#1
The begining

When you begin a game, (free mode or story mode), your ship is like this:

Name: Balsa
Crew members: 40
Food stock: 20
Canons: 14
Canonballs: 140
Gold: 2500

Hire 10 crew members, and buy the maximum food and canonballs you can. You have now 1470 gold, and you can sail for 16 days.

Now you have 3 choices.

1: you can attack the others ships for earning money and take over a more powerfull ship (fame:pirate)View the # on the pirates and the battles.

2: you can buy goods for cheap cost in a city and sell for profits in another city. (fame:trader)
View the # on the traders, the best good, and the city.

3: You can explore, searching treasure. (fame:explorer) The explorer fame is the hard, because you can't just explore, without making money.

(hey, i know my english is not very good, so be indulgent please)

#2: Pirates, BATTLES and pirate ships.

If you are a pirate, you are in battle constantly.
You attack, earn money from the fleets you destroy or take over.

This is a guide for WHO attack, and HOW attack.
First, WHO attack.

Merchant Fleet: Money and Food. Big crew (to be verified).
Battle Fleet: Diccicult: medium
Pirates Fleet: small crew (to be verified), aggressive (can attack you). Difficulty: harder

The Technic:

Vs 1 ship: You can do circle around you opponent, and fire when he is in face off your canons. Avoid the canonballs of the ennemy.

Vs 2 ships (how do you know the number of ships in the ennemy fleets? With this sentence: «Captain, _____ fleet...»
Fleet= 1 ship.
Fleets=2 ships.)

With 2 opponents, the first seconds is the most important.
Just after you click the button 'Start War', «sprint» with your ship for avoiding the bullets of the ennemy.
When you are in security, choose 1 ennemy ship, the one you will destroy first, by using the vs 1 technic. Try staying far of the range of the second.
Repeat with the second.

Personnally, I destroy a galleon with my balsa, without taking dommage.

Take over ennemy ship: If you want to use a more powerfull ship, without spend your preciouus money, you can take over a ennemy ship.
The Rules:
Abordage ennemy ship ONLY if you have 10+ crew members than the ennemy ship.
You can fire the opponent's ship for kill the crem members.
When you abord a ship, it is SURE you take 4-5 bullets.

When you are a master, with some golds and power, you can choice the ship you want.
The best for the battles is the Xebec.
Yes, he has 400 of live, and the galleon has 500.
Yes, he has 40 maximum canons, and the galleon has 50.
Yes, he as 800 of maximum canonballs, and the galleon has 100.
But the galleon is too big. Difficult to avoid canonballs.
Choose the Xebec. :)

Attacking Ports:
If you are a too BIG pirate, you can't access some ports.
If you want to enter in, you need to attack them.

HOW:
You have 3 ennemy:
2 galleons
1 port with canons.

The port shoot automatically if you approach too close, but
some places are not cover.
The 2 galleons is the real difficulty.
If you kill the 2, you have finished the battle, you «win», but you can't enter the port.

HOW:

Kill just one galleon.
Stay out of the range of the port and of the second galleon.
Go in a hole of the port's defense. Shoot the port.
You are lucky, the galleon is not very fast. You can shoot many bullets before he can fire on your ship.
Just go at the another hole, out of the range of the galleon, and and shoot the port.
Again, again.

My last tip for the pirates: go to Tanjung Pelepas, Port Virie or Mambasa. 3 city very close, who make a triangle.
Go in the middle of the triangle, and intercept all the ships.

#3: The trader.

Best ship: Galleon (more space for more supplies)

Trade Travels:

1:
Remsgate(coton cloth)
Sevastopol(tea)
Les Seblas(perfume)
Remsgate (coton cloth)...

2:
Moonstyn (vanilla)
Aalbarg (perfume)
Moonstyn (vanilla)..

3:
Chalmers (musk)
Jebail (silver)
Chalmers (musk)...

#4: The explorer

I can't reveal the place where the treasures are, but I can help you.

Search in the holes of the map, in the places. Use your instinct.
Be patient.
Talk in the taverns for treasure maps.
Treasure maps: Compare the particularity of the ground of your treasure map with your world map.
The best ship for the explorer is the galleon, because you can travel long time (33 days) with a entire crew without buy food.
I found all the treasures.

Free Game and Story Mode

In the free game mode, you have 3 years (VERY LONG!) for reach the ultimate rank, and be the master.
You can be a pirate, a explorer or a trader, what you want.
You can complete job, be a pirate killer...

In free mode, you can make all of this, but you have a Main mission: find a treasure.

NOTE: if, in story mode, you have for main mission to search the treasure called 'Dark Crystal', restart your game.
The Dark Crystal is too hard to find.

Very good guide, however a tip i would like to include:
- Retreat if your low on health, its better than dying and restarting the whole game ):
- Always stock up on crew members and ammo, who knows what will happen out in the secret sea?
- This game is really hard at first, but i kept playing and in the end, it was really fun.
