Obama's speech that just took place a few minutes ago was on the subject of health care. In his speech he clarified some lies and hopefully got rid of some scare tactics. He represented new Republican and Democratic ideas.

I think that his speech made a lot of sense, and the bill is a good idea. Why? Well post what you think and I'll reply.

What do you think of the speech? Do you think the bill is a good idea? Do you think the speech changed any minds?

Also, once it's on the net I will post a link to the speech for you all.

I was going to make a Health Care Reform right now, but I see you already have. I jammed a finger so I might not be typing to much.

I kept track of one main thing, the speech was 50 minutes long.

What I really, really loved is when President Obama ripped on all the republicans, it was amazing, not just in a fun way, but tin a truthful way.

Obama also broken another barrier, he said the 'L' word, lies. Yes, he said it, the one thing that everyone has been wanting to hear for their entire lives.

I fully agree with this, while redneck conservatives may be saying 'bullsh*t' throughout his whole speech, I say to them that there the most insane people in the world.

I was angry at the one republican, I can't pinpoint who it is, but he was interrupting the presidents whole speech, especially when he was saying the part about the exposed lies. There's so much more I want to say but my finger is to it's breaking point, either that or it's just a bit to energetic.

I also lik-loved when Obama was talking about the proposal about the healthcare reform and then he said, after explaining that no president had actually taken it up that he will be

'first, and the last'

Obama!

He represented new Republican and Democratic ideas.

Something George Washington would smile about. Coming together is very important, instead of being
separated by parties, like what Washington never wanted.

Lieutenut, you need to upload that link so I can watch it... I was seriously busy doing AG stuff,
I admit it X-P

What were some of the "clarified lies" he talked about?

linky

he best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. It is a lie, plain and simple.

yet it is in the HR3200, rationing

First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits

Add it all up, and the plan I'm proposing will cost around $900 billion over ten years

Instead of honest debate, we have seen scare tactics.

Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.

That. Has. Got. To. Be. One. Of. The. Biggest. BS. Statements. I. Have. Seen. In. One. Very. Long. Time.

It amde absolutely no sense, whatsoever. Businesses close? Because of no health care? I say BS! Makes no sense.

I know right? I mean, who cares if people get costly diseases, who cares if they go bankrupt, THATS MY TAX MONEY YOU'RE BUYING YOUR BRAIN SURGERY WITH!

Fail *Facepalm*

I know right, what a hypocrite. We should stay with the current system, even if it is a death trap and horribly ineffeciant to the point where 1/3 dollars in health care go to administrative causes. THATS MY TAX MONEY YOU'RE BUYING YOUR BRAIN SURGERY WITH!

The business close would be due to government going bankrupt. With all the aging baby boomers starting to go on medicare we're looking at spiraling costs for public health care already, which is the primary point of health care reform in the fist place. The overarching goal is to bring costs down, and by having the government ensure that care is provided to everyone, you bring down the cost of health care to individuals.

Fail *Facepalm*

You know, maybe he's looking for a plan that has a plan for how to pay for it. So if they're going to spend $900 billion, they'll create $900 billion in revenue somewhere else.

I do not believe universal healthcare/single payer system is a good idea. Obama is offering a choice of government run insurance, and private insurance, which is good as it will help suppress monopolies.

I do infact support the plan.

It does make sense. When people don't have health insurance, and get sick/hurt, my premiums go up.

What that means is that when you avoid going to the doctor because you can't afford it and then end up in the ER, I will have to pay higher premiums because of it. If I have to subsidize your medical care I'd rather pay for preventative care.

mudslinging and your interpretation of it does not mean a thing to the point i was making. the 1st and 3rd quotes were early in the speech. the 2nd and 4th were late.

i don't like inconsistency

they'll create $900 billion in revenue somewhere else.

hopefully not from our defense budget or medicaid >.>

. . .and that's why even less people respect you.

Count me as one less from the respecting Krizaz crowd. >.<

Really, insulting someone over their personal opinions is close-minded and makes you look like you deserve to be insulted by Green12324. (D

Really, mudslinging and flaming a person who actually *is* respected will get you very very far . . . backwards.

>.<

Anyway, I thought it was a good speech. However, I'm quite against Obama trying to pass this legislation now - we need to get out of the recession first, or we'll end up with empty welfare, social security, etc. coffers pretty fast. We need to implement a public option, but this is a bad time.

Hopefully from the defense budget. We should have slashed it after the fall of the USSR and funneled the money into more useful programs, or tax breaks, or anything. When a nation is spending 50% of budget on military it shows that either A. they're pursuing to many avenues at once of B. they've begun to fail at diplomacy which ultimately means no matter how much they spend they'll just keep losing power over time.

i really have no idea how much we are spending on defense, i just know a rich nation with bad defense = take over by other nation.if it's 50% i agree, divert spending but just don't take too much out >_>.
