I'm not doubting that some children have shorter attention spans than others, I'm just saying that some of those children need a good ol' fashioned paddling. I'm also not trying to be mean, it's just that that's how things got done back in the day.

And prior to accurate studies & a proper diagnosis, it was acceptable to hit your own soldiers when they were hospitalized for "shell shock".

Thinking that modern medical science should bow to 'the good old days' is pretty shocking.  Should we go back to no vaccines, no organ transplants, and no physical therapy because that's how they used to do it?

That is not what I said. If kids had a mental problem like ADHD, parents didn't go to doctors like they do now. They disciplined them. I'm not saying we shouldn't use cures for diseases like cancer, or aids. I'm just saying let's control the things we can control.

It is something we can control - but to your earlier sentence:

If kids had a mental problem like ADHD, parents didn't go to doctors like they do now. They disciplined them.

Right, so instead of seeking out help from medical professionals on determining if it is ADD or ADHD and getting a proper diagnosis, or discovering that the children are just not being raised properly - and giving those parents education on the subject and the proper tools to help deal with the issue, those parents should just discipline their children instead?

That seems entirely backward.

It depends what you mean by disciplin them. Are we talking violence or some barriers that parents should be enforcing.
I dont entierly trust a medical profession run by money, as they can sometimes have alterior motives. But I agree parents should be given help, and drugs are a real last resort in my opinion.

I agree with Analogmunky.  I don't think meds are the right choice.  Doping up every child just cuz he/she won't sit still is not going to help in the long run.  How much are these drugs impeding our kids creativity or stop their ability to become scientists, doctors, or anything requiring a high skill level.  Too bad nobody seems to want to study and find a real fix instead of just pumping kids up with downers.
