Relative to what

To the amount of weapons there are.

calling an AK-47 a weapon of mass destruction because they have been used, throughout history, to kill lots of people seems to me to be like calling a dog a weapon of mass destruction for the same reason.

Dogs don't have the ability to blast your head everywhere. They can't kill you instantly. They don't even have a very high chance of killing you. They aren't used for mass murder either.

I'm pretty sure that makes no sense.

Dogs don't have the ability to blast your head everywhere. They can't kill you instantly. They don't even have a very high chance of killing you. They aren't used for mass murder either.

But none of those things are in the definition of WMD. A weapon of mass destruction causes mass destruction by itself, that's the point. That's what separates them from regular weapons.

Whatever. I give up.

You win. And I assume you take everything to its most literal meaning as well?

I'm pretty sure that makes no sense.

There are 10's on millions. They have killed 10's of millions. More than all the literal weapons of mass destruction combined.

An Ak-47 isn't even close to a WMD...can an AK-47 blow up a house by itself? Can it kill one million people in an instant like an Atomic Bomb can, then have other people die from after-effects? The AK is just a gun one person normally carries.

Anyway, I don't see what's to idolize about a guy who created a weapon of mass destruction.

That I would have to disagree with. Now, I don't idolize the guy whatsoever. But, the gun he created is not a 'weapon of Mass Destruction.' The term 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' see more fit to actual weapons that can cause mass destruction. Such as nuclear bombs, bunker busters, hydrogen bombs etc.

The AK-47 is not a weapon of mass destruction. It can only cause enough damage until it runs out of bullets, and depends on who the shooter is. (Trained or not) Many people use the gun in third world countries since it's cheep to acquire, but that does not mean it causes damage to the likes of the bombs stated above.
