So it's a paradox.
Paradox, is all I can say.
for causing a paradox.
Ok, we get it now. It's a paradox. Or, at least, that's what you think.
I have two theories.
1. If I said I was going to write a book, am I telling a lie? It might be 10 years, but the book will be written. If I die before I can write the book, then does it becomes a lie?
So, in one way, the only way Pinocchio can be lying is through hind-site. Unless his nose can predict the future (which it can't), there's no way the nose can react to such statement.
Let us say Pinocchio told everyone he was going to go the store. On the way to the store, he gets distracted and goes off on his own adventure. At the time, Pinocchio was being honest because he honestly thought he was going to go to the store. So does it make his previous statement a lie, or was Pinocchio simply incorrect?
Let's suppose that Pinocchio said he was going to go to the store, but had no intent to actually go, then it could be a lie. However, if his nose began to grow, then he decided to go to the store, what he said no longer remains a lie.
So in this theory, Pinocchio's nose can only grow to lies pertaining to statements relating to present or past time, not future time.
That is one theory. However, there's another theory as well.
2.Pinocchio's nose may grow any time Pinocchio tries to lie. In this case, if Pinocchio said he was going to go to the store, but he didn't intend on going, his nose would grow, no matter if he decided to go to the store later on or not.
Let's suppose Pinocchio says "My nose is going to grow." It will grow if Pinocchio honestly believes his nose won't grow. If Pinocchio honestly thinks his nose will grow, he was attempting to tell the truth, making Pinocchio incorrect, rather than a liar. If Pinocchio becomes aware of such Paradox, then the nose may depend on what Pinocchio thinks will happen at a sub-conscious level. This basically means Pinocchio can say "My nose will grow", while being aware of the "orthodox", and the nose will either grow or not grow as if the event becomes completely random (but really it's working off what Pinocchio thinks at a sub conscious level).
Even if Pinocchio realizes the statement is working off what he believes would happen at a sub conscious, he would still be unable to control his nose after making such a statement.
That is what I believe.
