Well! What was originally going to be my own little poetry challenge has turned into a major competition! Please read every word in this opening post very carefully as everything I say must be adhered to. I don't know if you know this, but I am very strict with my rules and regulations...

The general point of this competition

A few of us users have come up with a list of 50 themes which can be found below. The aim of this competition is to write a poem or a piece of short prose for each theme, just for fun! There are no deadlines (as of yet) for the submissions because I don't want the pieces to be hurriedly written, so don't let that put you off participating. Everyone is welcome to participate. There's no pressure to submit all 50 pieces, take your time, have fun!

Please remember to follow the basic rules of the AMW. All work must be your own. No flaming, trolling, spamming, etc. Only provide critique on a user's piece if they have asked for it specifically. Keep general discussion on this thread to a minimum so as to remain at least a little bit on topic.

Submissions

A list of rules that (hopefully) cover everything you need to know about submissions. Read carefully. If you have any questions, contact me on my profile.

*You do not need to submit the pieces in order. You may start with whichever theme you like.

* Once you have written and revised a piece, submit it!

*You may submit more than one piece at a time, although submitting too many at once will seem as though you've rushed them.

*I will keep track of how many submissions each participant has entered on my profile, so take a look once in a while.

*Only short prose pieces are accepted. Nothing too longwinded please. I am going to include a word limit of 1,500 words.

*There is a certain structure to submitting a piece in order to keep the thread nice and tidy:
- Your piece must have the theme name and number as the title in bold. You may also include your own title in brackets next to it.
- You must state which form you have written your piece in, for example, haiku, short prose, sonnet, standard verse, etc.

Here is an example post;

Here they are:

1) Theme-a-Rama!: Mention 15 separate themes in one piece.

2) Sonnet 130: Write a mock sonnet which relates to love and one other theme.

3) Total Overkill: Use the theme title 6 times in one piece.

4) Like a Freight Train: Be the first to complete the first 10 themes.

5) In The Dank And Dark Recesses Of The Mind...: Be the first to complete themes 8, 14, 17 and 46.

And there'll be more coming your way!

Lets get started!

40: Trial and Error (last one for today!)

I make mistakes
Don't we all
I hurt people sometimes
I trip and fall.
I learn from my errors
I try again
There are more days
There are more friends
I have my flaws
Are you perfect, too?
I've met a lot of people
Thinking it through
I wish I was perfect
Oh, don't we all?
But I always get up
When I trip and fall.

47. Old Age (free verse)

I had everything, and at the same time nothing,
As my final moments of life are full of questions,
I step trough hard moving doors, of my memories,
Expecting to find elixir of life in days of our youth,
Hoping, that i could rise as a pheonix from the ashes.

While laying in the field of grass, im trying to remember,
Remember things, i had forgoten long time ago,
First kiss, first ride with dads car and her,
Long, wavy, burning hair, eyes of my first true love,
That moment when i felt warmth of her music, music of laughter.

I looked at another dusty shelf, i saw book,
Book coloured in orange, with big silver letters on its front,
"My happyness", I carefully opened it and felt soft breeze,
I closed my eyes and appeared at seashore, at that evening,
Evening with closest friends of mine, soft melody of nature.

While placing the book back into shelf i heard voices,
Voices comming from far distance, so familiar ones,
I tried to walk towards them, but somebody grabbed my shoulder,
I took a look at my companion, i saw gray-headed man,
He gently showed me the door with his skinny hand.

My last wish, was to leave message, message to my son,
I barely got up from my bed, took a pencil and a sheet of paper,
I wrote down everything, what he needed to know,
What he needed to do in this wonderful world, then i closed my eyes,
Counting my last beats of heart, "Carpe Diem my son, carpe diem..."

16. Inner strength

The urge to sin comes again
to that evil thing once more
fighting to stay away, keep
my inner self clean.

But the urge grows, poco y poco
the fight soon a loosing battle
can't hold on much longer
will sin triumph?

Suddenly, strength abounds
the mention of one man's name
and the temptation flees, cowering
in fear from this man mentioned.

Now, I've no need to fear these
evil things; my inner strength
supplemented by the savior of all
forever free from sin.

Just in case you don't pick up, the line &quotoco y poco" is "little by little".

24-Christmas

The pretty lights hang on my neighbor's porch, yet mine is empty
A beautiful tree is showing through the window of every house
We sing the carols at school, while I mutter my own under my breath
They give my parents a day off of work, and my school is let out for 2 weeks
All this for Christmas
But no mention of Hanukkah
