To help users who want to post photos in the forums (especially within the Faces of Armor Games and Users thread in the Tavern), I decided to write up a quick tutorial on how to get images from some of the popular photo hosting services, and post them in a forum message here.

FACEBOOK

Even if your profile and photos are private, you can still share a photo with the public. Browse your photo gallery, find a photo you want to share, and at the bottom of the web page you'll see text that looks like this:

Share this photo with anyone by sending them this public link:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=12345&l=kjhasdkjhasd

If you cut and paste that URL into a new browser window/tab, you can see the photo and any comments, tagging, etc.

To get the public URL for the photo, you can do the following steps:

Google Chrome:
Right-click the photo and select "Copy Image URL"

Firefox:
Right-click the photo and select "Copy Image Location"

Safari:
Right-click the photo and select "Copy Image Address"

Internet Explorer:
Right-click the photo and select Properties
In the pop-up window, you can see the Address (URL) line, which you can select (start at the left side where you see "http://...", click and hold the left mouse button, and drag all the way to the right, and down; it may scroll a little bit and show you some hidden text if it's a long URL) and hit CTRL-C to copy the URL to your clipboard.

A Facebook photo URL may look something like this:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs718.snc4/63796_430830050763_726405763_5674117_1984100_n.jpg

Now you can go to the photo thread, jump down to the reply area, click the "Image" button, and paste the URL of your image.

Make sure you don't have the http:// part twice (http://http://www.etc.etc), or the image won't work.

Click 'Submit' and your photo should appear in a reply message.

FLICKR

If you have a photo on Flikr, you can navigate to that photo, click on the "Share This" button at the top, and a little navigation menu will appear. Click on "Grab the Link" and the navigation window will change with a text field you can copy. The text field is labeled "Here's a link to this photo. Just copy and paste!". Select all of the text in the field, and copy it to your clipboard.

Flickr images will look like this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10727829@N06/4381936173/

Now, you can go to the photo thread, jump down to the reply area, click the "Image" button, and paste the URL of your image.

Make sure you don't have the http:// part twice (http://http://www.etc.etc), or the image won't work.

Click 'Submit' and your photo should appear in a reply message.

IMAGESHACK

When viewing your images, there should be a small {i} icon beside each image. If you hover over it, it will say "share it". A new window will appear on the page, which will show you multiple ways to share the photo. The easiest method is to copy everything in the "Forums" field, where it already includes the 'img' bits you'll need for the forums here. At this point, you have everything you need. Just go to the photo thread, and paste the code into a reply message, but BEFORE you click the "Submit" button, you may need to make a quick change. If the ImageShack code looks like you should change it to lowercase like or otherwise it may not work properly.

Wow Cormyn, I didn't know there was a way to do it publicly on Facebook. I'm assuming that will show everyone my real name and stuff if I do it that way though :/

Sorry for the double post, but I have a question. What if the photo you are trying to post doesn't have a http:// address?
