The virus is what started this all. Most of us went into hiding, avoiding the airborne virus. The unlucky few, who were caught outside when the virus reached its peak, were poisoned and died. There are groups of colonists, all separate from each other. If they ever would come across another colony, the stronger colony would attack and destroy the other colony for recourses. Nearly all of the colonists are very aggressive.
After 3 years of hiding and eating dehydrated food, the virus finally subsided enough in one area of town to start exploring. The air outside was still toxic, so mouth protection was needed. The cave you sat in started to run out of food, so you have to find a new food source.
You crawl out of the cave and see that there is a small abandoned warehouse to the north, and forest to the south, some movement to the east, and a small abandoned dock to the west. The cave behind you collapses.
