Most of the music I listen to is older hard rock, and Led Zeppelin is probably the best hard rock group before 1980. That's an opinion though. Pink Floyd makes you think with their lyrics, but to me they sound like they lack emotion.

Zeppelin is the winner of this round for me. No question. I've always taken them for granted, but comparing them to Pink Floyd made me realize what a great band Led Zeppelin really is. Everything about a Zeppelin song you can appreciate, including the vocals for those of you who find Robert Plant's voice bothersome.

Now why would I have a problem with Pink Floyd? They're all very talented musicians. What are they missing? The ability to make their music sound interesting. Something that makes the song worth listening to. Jimmy Page's guitar work is distinctive enough so that you can tell which song is playing just by the riffs. If you asked me to identify a Pink Floyd song, I wouldn't be able to because they all sound about the same to me.

I don't hate Pink Floyd, for the record. I just don't see why they're so highly praised.

This has to be the hardest battle for me yet, but my vote will fall for Pink Floyd. Though Jimmy Page is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, I have greater appreciation for what David Gilmore can do. Don't get me wrong, I love Jimmy Page's playing, I just like David Gilmore's better.
Also, Roger Waters' songwriting is superior to Led Zeppelin's, mainly due to the fact that most songs having nothing to do with sex, unlike Zeppelin.

@ Maverick4 : Your vote was a sure bet for me! With or without you wearing your Pink Floyd t-shirt... ;)

Ok, you're just getting on my nerves now DayCee...

@ Fallen950 : My sole purpose in life... if it comes to music that is! LOL =P

You might as well have put them against my nephews and niece playing their paper jam guitars..

@ ilberic : Are your nephew and niece THAT good?! =)

Some battles I just can't sit out... this one I just HAVE to vote in! It's not that I dislike Pink Floyd, but Led Zeppelin beats them without even having to lift a finger, or -speaking in music terms- having to strike a chord! Led Zeppelin is one of the pillars Rock (and Metal) was build upon and surely deserves my vote for every high pitched note sung, every drum roll beaten, every riff played, making them and awesome 'page' in the history of Rock (and Metal) music allover the world!! Led Zeppelin gets my vote!

So with my personal vote in the bag, there's a small lead occuring in score count :

Score count for 1/2 Final # 1 :

8 - Led Zeppelin
6 - Pink Floyd

The score went upward side by side for a long while, but now Led Zeppelin ahs taken a small 2 points lead over Pink Floyd! Will they make it back alongside them or even overtake in the final sprint?! You decide!! VOTE PEOPLE!!! =D

I'm sorry for chiming in so late in the round and thank you for keeping this open for us a little longer, DayC, xx

I have often wondered how I would vote if I had to choose between these two giants...

Led Zeppelin has to have recognition for all of the talent, lyrics, musical scores for orchestra, etc. I'm sure record sales are far beyond Pink Floyd's but...

Pink Floyd lyrics and music speaks to me like no other band I know except for Deep Purple.
I have recently been listening to The Wall (for the how many-eth time) and The Trial is still one of the funniest songs I've ever heard a rock group sing and still be taken seriously at the same time. The lyrics are written about British woes but can be used for metaphors to explain the turmoil of the '70's. Very few performers give me the chills when they play an instrument or sing but Pink Floyd always has and always will. Just call me..."crazy, toys 'n the attic, I am crazy" the chord change in that one line is awesome!

Well this is getting really interesting, especially because I am voting for Pink Floyd. I like the sound of Pink Floyd better then Led Zeppelin. The style of Pink Floyd is also better then Led Zeppelin's in my opinion. Plus I have a Pink Floyd album at home.

It's a tough call but Led Zeppelin takes the cake this round. Rock could have evolved without Pink Floyd, but Led Zeppelin helped shape rock music into what it is today. Contrary to the general opinion here, I prefer Led Zeppelin's lyrics over Pink Floyd's, because I get the vibe from Pink Floyd that they're trying to be weird. I don't respect that in a band, because you don't have to try to be weird.

It's a difficult choice. I am quite fond of both bands. Truly great bands, very innovative and influential.

But, I am going to vote for Led Zeppelin, their music is just a little more to my liking. Plus, Immigrant Song is one of my all time favorite songs.

ZZ Top, as La Grange is awesome. It's one of the iconic tunes to classic rock, and really should be one of the first things you think of when thinking about Classic Rock (thinkception?). And also because I hate Van Halen.
