Forums → Popular Media → "C.R.B.W.C." : the Classic Rock Bands World Cup!
A lot of people have been asking me when the new edition of the 'CRBWC' would finally start (and I'm sorry it took me so long...), but I wanted to make the second edition even better and more fun than the first one!
(In case you wonder what the first one looked like: this is the 'CRBWC 2010'.)
After hours of fun (and stress!) in figuring out the new CRBWC schematics, the gathering of info on the participating bands and fabricating the additional pictures to it all, I'm proud of the final outcome and so, without further delay, let's kick off the 2011 edition of the
Now, some changes have been made to the second edition of this competition, so reading the rules and guidelines is something everyone needs to do, even the voters from last year's edition are advised to...
The format of this World Cup for Classical Rock Bands is based upon the organisation schematics of the Soccer World Cup. It has the same rules as the Soccer World Cup in terms of competitors proceeding through it, but it will follow a few rules of its own too.
Below is a short guide to elaborate the >binding rules< for this competition:
-The 'CRBWC' consist of a total of 24 rounds being presented one at a time.
-Each round will be open for voting for a maximum of 2 weeks or untill a band reaches the points limit.
-Each user of ArmorGames who wants to give a vote has the possibility to vote only once per round.
-All votes given by users are obligated to consist of an elaborated reasoning as to 'why' you choose these two bands. Votes lacking a proper elaborated reasoning, for example: "I like them" or "They rule", will not be counted. Elaborate on why you like them and talk about them, that's the main goal of this competition!
-Different to last year's edition, this time each vote in the group stage of this competition will consist of naming a "First choice" with with a value of 3 points and a "Second choice" with a value of 1 point.
-You only get to vote for two bands in a group. NO double voting for a single band and/or NO voting for more than two bands per group. No exceptions will be made in this matter.
-If two bands reach the limit of 30 points at the same time, the band with the most "First choices" will be declared as the winner of that round.
-The rule explained above, also applies if two bands reach a similar point count for second place at the same time in the 'Group Stage'.
-If, for any reason, two bands reach the limit of 30 points simultaniously and both have an equal amount of first and second choices, the band getting it's 'winning vote' first will be declared the winner.
-Further rounds after the group stage will have a 1 point count for each vote given and an according 10 points limit. Rules for declaring a winner will be applied according to the group stage rules.
-No discussions about the ruling on the outcome of a round are allowed.
# THE GROUP STAGE:
-This stage will behold 8 different groups (A to H) consisting of 7 Classical Rock Bands to choose from.
-After closure, both the 'group winner' and the 'runner up' band will proceed to the knockout stage.
-All other remaining bands are eliminated from the competition.
THE KNOCKOUT STAGE:
-After completing the Group stage, the 'group winner' of the first group will be up against the 'runner up' of the second group. The 'group winner' of the second group will be up against the 'runner up' of the first group. This schedule will be followed for the rest of the groups, to clarify:
#1 Group A vs. #2 Group B (Winning band is called 'Winner I'
#1 Group B vs. #2 Group A (Winning band is called 'Winner II'
#1 Group C vs. #2 Group D (Winning band is called 'Winner III'
#1 Group D vs. #2 Group C (Winning band is called 'Winner IV'
#1 Group E vs. #2 Group F (Winning band is called 'Winner V'
#1 Group F vs. #2 Group E (Winning band is called 'Winner VI'
#1 Group G vs. #2 Group H (Winning band is called 'Winner VII'
#1 Group H vs. #2 Group G (Winning band is called 'Winner VIII'
THE 1/4 FINALS:
-The next stage, the 1/4 finals, will be held in this order:
# Winner I vs. Winner V
# Winner II vs. Winner VI
# Winner III vs. Winner VII
# Winner IV vs. Winner VIII
THE SEMI FINALS:
-The semi finals will be held in the order of:
# Winner I/V vs. Winner II/VI
# Winner III/VII vs. Winner IV/VIII
THE 'SHADOW FINAL':
-A number three and four is decided in a match between both 'losing' bands from the semi finals.
-Ranking of third and fourth place in this Final is decided upon the band that reaches the 10 points limit first.
THE FINAL MATCH:
-The Final match is held between both winning bands from the semi finals.
-When one of the bands in the Final reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared the winner of the competition and is crowned The 'CRBWC' Champion 2011.
-The remaining band is ranked #2 in this competition.
-There will be NO playoffs held in this competition.
-You don't get to complain when 'your band' is eliminated from the competition. "Take the pain..."
-Swearing and obscene language is not tolerated. Always respect the opinion(s) of the other users participating in this thread, even if you disagree with their reasoning.
-If any situation should occur that is not explained and/or guided by the thread's rules, the 'Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations' and the 'Popular Media Rules ("Read these rules or else..."' apply and are to be followed for this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'. They will be referred to when needed.
You can find them here:

Since this year's 'CRBWC' competition has a little more stuff to work with, I will start off as the sole Moderator for it, but there might be other moderators assigned over time if/when I see fit. Don't ask me for an assignment, since I will only assign people I know to have the same devotion to this competition and they will be revealed when the time comes, ok?
And last, but certainly not least... take heed:
!!! OFFICIAL AG ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS WILL ALWAYS HAVE A BINDING WORD !!!
So, whenever an AG administrator or moderator visits this thread and decides to alter/delete a user's post or take action on an item or discussion, listen and obide to them as you would throughout the rest of the ArmorGames website.
I hope the AG users will like and participate in this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'!
So my main advice to all participants is to simply... ENJOY!!!
Now... enough with the talk... shove everything aside and...

I am not much for the new rock and I dont know why, most of the new rock bands just seem the same to me. I mean classic rock bands could be easly told apart from each other and they just seemed to have a sound of thier own. You could tell the difference between The Eagles and Queen couldn't you. But know song writers are useing pretty much the same methods nowadays and I wish they could make lengendary songs like the old days.
I think you're completely right there Zionman! Allthough there are some bands around nowadays that do manage to produce a unique sound within the genre of rock music, it's often proven to be a same old-same old every time a new band jumps on stage trying to become famous... the current generation of rock musicians simply can't grow to the level of greatness which the bands back in the 80's managed to evolve to! That's why it's such a great moment within the whole music genre to dig into! The whole area during the late 70's, the 80's and the first part of the 90's is such a huge treasure chest containing gems that are sometimes priceless! =)
But who knows... maybe such a moment in time will return someday and a second 'Classic Rock Era' will be born... I just hope it will be when I'm around to experience it!! =D
Don't forget to cast your votes before the group is closed Zionman! It would be a shame if you missed out on the opportunity...
@ 14sammy2 : Your reasoning is too thin, therefor it will not be counted. A proper reasoning is acquired to get your vote counted, not simply because you like the intro of one particular song... try to talk a little more about the band itself maybe?
A quick vote count for now, probably the last one for this group:
# Votes counted for group E : #
Led Zeppelin__: 17 (+3+1+1+1+1+1+3+3+3)
Pink Floyd____: 13 (+3+3+3+1+3)

Sidenote to all participants of the competition :
Due to a lot of work, I had trouble putting together the next batch of information to go with the coming group battle. Sorry for the delay, but see it like this... you've had almost a complete extra week to enjoy this group! =)
Next group (F) will be posted tonight (around 22:00hrs CET), so be ready... 'eddie'...
Well... it's like I predicted in the previous post, the last score roundup was indeed the final score for this group! A somewhat dissapointing score I must add, but hey... on to the next one!

You knwo the words by now...
On your marks... get set... ready... eddie... steady... VOTE!!!
interesting group. im not a fan of ANY of these bands. most of you know im not a fan of arena rock in general.
my first vote is deffinatly going to kiss. kiss changed the way people looked at rock. they didnt really have the best songs, but they had the best stage pressence and in my oppinion, they still do.
my second vote goes to alice cooper. to me hes really the best of the worst from this list :/
Probably the easiest group for my votes so far.
1st vote:Easy,KISS.Rock N Roll All Night is awesome. They've also been very influential and had a great stage presence with their costumes.
2nd vote:Also easy,Twisted Sister. We're Not Gonna Take It is probably,to me the second best song ever. They had the awesome look and looked great on stage.
What is this, the crazy hair group?Lip stick, wigs, long hair, and make up.
Poison :P my bad
Poison :P my bad
You get 2 votes and there wasn't even a try at explaining.
I'll probably vote for people who aren't going to get votes in this group as I can just take a pretty good stab at who's going to win. Nevertheless:
1st vote: Twisted Sister. Let it be known that I don't really like anyone in this group besides Dee and the boys. I like the persona and I like the what he did for music in testifying in the Tipper trial..
2nd vote: ..would have gone to Poison if I wasn't so sick and **** tired of seeing Bret's ugly *** mug everywhere or hearing about him.. I'm so sick of him I could literally vomit. So I'll vote for Ratt, even though in my opinion they basically have 1 song. However, I love playing that song on Rock Band and therefore my vote.
A whole bunch of bands that you couldn't say that I like. But there are two that I do.
1. KISS. Though Kiss may not have been a super-influential band, they are probably the most influential in this group. Besides this, they brought about the popularization of the live album with their "Alive!" albums. Finally, they revolutionized the way performances are done, with their numerous on-stage props and stunts.
2. Alice Cooper. Alice Cooper just has something that sets them apart from the other bands. I love songs like "no more mister nice guy", "under my wheels", and "eighteen". I also love the synth driven "clones (we're all)". Overall, the style Alice uses sets them apart from every other band in contention for second.
1. Alice Cooper, because he would always have a way of being creepy and that was different in the Classic Rock age. He also has some songs I like such as Street fight and Schools Out
2. RaTT because they have some songs like that are actually on the example list Round and Round (and) Lay it Down
1. Alice Cooper: excellent songs and a style (the clothes and attitude) near of metal bands. Schooooool's out for summer!!
2. KISS: a superb group. I rarely listen to them, but when I do, I enjoy a lot.
1st vote : Twisted Sister, really talented, great singer best rebellious song ever : "were Not Gonna Take It"
2nd vote : Ratt, they are like Motley Crue exept better, I love their guitar work, probably the best out of all these bands!
Kiss is the most overatted band in history, they barely have any talent and if they make it through im gonna be very mad
Kiss is the most overatted band in history, they barely have any talent
naw kiss was famous for a reason. i agree that they didnt really have the best songs, but they made love performances what they are today. kiss wasnt known for their incredible musicianship, but for their groundbreaking shows that blew your face off. and to top it all off, peter chris is a good drummer
@ FALLEN950 : Thanx for checking into the 'CRBWC' competition and stating your first choice! But you have two choices and a solid reasoning is mandatory to get your votes counted! Please provide one and I'll count them!
@ Zionman and valboss84 : Preeeee-tty thin reasoning there guys... however, I'm in a good mood and I have too little time right now, so consider them counted! But bare in mind that I might not be as forgiving the next round... =P
and to top it all off, peter chris is a good drummer
@ delossantosj : I was wondering what it was in particular you liked about KISS... LOL XD
Allright, here we go with a first roundup of votes stated so far in this group!
# Votes counted for group F : #
KISS____________: 10 (+3+3+3+1)
Alice Cooper____: 8 (+1+1+3+3)
Twisted Sister__: 7 (+1+3+3)
RaTT____________: 3 (+1+1+1)
Poison__________: 0 (-)
Mötley Crüe_____: 0 (-)
Cinderella______: 0 (-)
Man... I knew that the favorite bands were already determined before the start of this group, but this could become a nice battle for first place between 3 bands! We just need to get some points in for the other 3 bands behind RaTT I guess... =/
Well.. it's up to you people! Pick your winners, get them votes in, write up those reasonings and I'll be glad to count the score and watch the battle progress with excitement! =D
