I've noticed that AG is a bit multi-faceted, in that it purports to be relatively kid-friendly (or at least 13 and up), such that certain expletives and offensive terms are censored on the forums, and certain content is filtered (no posting pornography etc.) However the range of topics discussed on the forums is often quite adult in nature, but I'm quite glad for that, and there's nothing wrong with this as far as I can tell.

When playing some of the games, however, I realise that while certain types of games (of the hentai variety, pornographic games, obviously) are excluded. However, this doesn't exclude other games which have any or even all of the following:

1) Violence
2) Blood and gore (Dark Cut series, nudge nudge, John :P)
3) Drug and alcohol references
4) Offensive language/expletives

Now, I'm certainly not advocating censorship. But I'm wondering if it would be prudent to implement some kind of "mature content advisory" for the games. I'm quite aware that given there are +800 games already on AG this would be somewhat of a mammoth task, but if a form were implemented in the submission system (as in Newgrounds), at least future games would display the appropriate warnings, and then ratings to archived games can be applied retrospectively.

Running through and giving mature content ratings to games would be hard initially, but if we give the option as a dropdown for the developer when they upload the game to our site it should be no big deal.

Yes, but we still have 850 games to do by hand

If this really was becoming an issue, could you add something to the comments part of the game, for us to fill out? There could be a radio box of "Is this game Mature?" (having already given a general definition of Mature) and having to give an explanation along with the choice. Then again, that would probably take longer to implement than it is worth..

You might still be able to get some of the users to help too.

Yeah, I'm aware of that issue Calm (I think I raised it when I initially mentioned the idea)...having just done a donkey's load of work on the MMO equivalent of "farming", I certainly wouldn't want to foist that upon the admins.

And the mods would be brought in on it too? Well, while that would lighten the load...sheesh, yeah, I know it's a huge task. I was toying around with DM's suggestion of user-driven ratings or at least advisories.

Perhaps a sub-committee for the rating of AG games could be appointed xD

There's some people like myself and Dan who have guided the induction of every game on this site, so we have some understanding of the rating of every game. We hand-pick, there is never an "auto-add" button. So we should be okey-day.

I think it would take longer to get volunteers and a system to have them help then it would be for one of us to run around to each game.

i have an idea about taking out violent games (this does not apply to nudity)

i think to play certain violent games you must be 13+ and then you dont have to delete them because i dontwant to have to go on New grounds to play thing thing arena 2

Yeah, I think one could possibly work with that hierensi...Actually, seeing as the ages of all users must be registered on the AG servers, I was wondering whether one could use this to filter out what kind of games one is able to play.

But then I don't know if this is policing a little too much.

@ hierensi
I don't get your suggestion:

I think to play certain violent games you must be 13+ and then you dont have to delete them because i dontwant to have to go on New grounds to play thing thing arena 2

To register on ArmorGames, you need to be at least 13 years old so your suggestion doesn't bring anything new... Or did I misunderstand it?

Yes, all users here *should* be 13 at least, though clearly there are many people who blatantly and willingly do not follow this rule.

True DM, but we can't do anything against those. we can't prevent them from lying over the internet!
