hunter908, just farm the desirable monster for an egg. It will drop,just be patient. Don't know how good hellhounds, the first Loomi stayed with me until I've got Fire Starter.
I like the glacier anacondas. Once they hit something with their ice shard, you can run behind the target and juggle it with ice shards of your own (or fireballs/venom spits). I defeated vulcan using this tactic. I'm definitely trying out different pets though.
i say field snakes are the best because is you give them enough training they will eventually spit poison and if you can level it up to lvl 123 you will start having random death bogs showing up when battling with your field snake.
