I realized how to provide weapons to my survivors (duh) but I still have that frustrating issue of running out of ammo popping up from time to time forcing me to restart.  Arggg

Anyway I have made it to Union city twice now. The first time with two days left and the second with four.  Both times I saw the city being bombed and it said I was too late.  Is that the end?  Can you never make it in time to be rescued?

hey, just to point out, you got one thing a little wrong regarding soldier and swat zombies - while soldiers do have protective headgear, SWAT members only have a balclava and take normal head damage. Furthermoe, if you have very good aim, you can get a head shot on the soldiers by aiming at the small portion of their face that is visible. If they are next to the barrir, it is very easy to attack this section of the head with the chainsaw.

Hello, just my 2 cents.

After many tries and observation, here's my proposed weapons list for your survivors:

1) Upper slot: Shooting Rifle
2) 2nd slot from top: Shotgun
3) 3rd slot from top: Sawn off shotgun
4) last slot: .357 revolver

With this setting, my survivors are doing the best damage. I hardly need to save them even at the last town.

The automatic rifles are not well used by the survivors.

Good weapons for yourself:

1) Ak-47: The clip isn't large, but it has the best firepower. If you have a good aim, it's better than the UZI.

2) Shotgun: You can even finish the game with it, especially using the chainsaw cheat to get 50 bullets. Even without, shoot and reload. Don't wait to empty the gun. Shoot only at runners, let the survivors kill the rest. If a runner is coming while shooting, press fire, he will quit reloading and fire the rounds he has. Very good for people with bad aim.

3) UZI. Great clip, but damage is poor. I have found myself unloading my clip on fat female zombie's head with machete and not killing it in time to prevent the death of a fellow survivor.

4) M4. Damage a bit larger than the UZI. However the clip capacity is medium and damage is inferior than the AK-47. Good for people with good aim that can shoot in short bursts to save ammunition.

5) UMP.: At the hands of a sharp shootet, it can be even better than the UZI, for the fact that is very accurate and with slightly faster reload time.

6) The Compound Bow. You can go all the way to the end with this, if you have good aim. The only problem is finger pain from too much clicking. 2 shots on the head (or leg shots to SWAT and army zombies) will take down any zombie.

7) The Chainsaw. Never liked it. Too strong in close quarters.

8) The Minigun and RPG: Overkill.

9) The Sawn-off Shotgun: Probably the most useless weapon in the game for you, because of the ridiculously low reload time.

10) Hunting Rifle: Good for sharp Shooters with excellent aim, but in the last city where zombies attack in waves of runners, it's too slow to reload.

Note: All automatic weapons are "wasted" in the hands of fellow survivors. They tend to shoot sparingly and with bodyshots too, at 5 rounds at a time, insufficient to kill a fat zombie.

Traps: Prefer to place traps on your 1st top and last bottom slots, since it's there that most armed zombies usually run to kill your fellow survivors. This way you save traps for next battles. Don't lay any traps at your last battle before you leave a city, as the unused ones will be lost.

I tend to put the bear traps or mines, at the last square before my barricade. In this way, they usually catch a zombie that made it all the way to the barricade and aren't wasted on zombies that can be killed from safe distance.

Explosive traps: I put 1 per battle on the 3rd square from the barricade, right in the middle of the road. Usually it's on the path of the first rush towards you and you can kill many with one blast.

Shotgun tips: Try to shoot zombies from a diagonal position. Some pellets may spray to kill nearby zombies. Don't bother aiming the crosshairs on their hands. Keep the crosshairs close to your barricade, aim towards the charging zombie direction, the bullets will spread much and do their collateral damage.

General tips: For some reason, i find that the accuracy is improved, when i shoot from a position slightly above or below the zombies head. When perfectly alligned, oddly enough, some bullets miss. This is especially true for the revolver.

Aspenwood: The 2 Aspenwood guns, are positioned ALWAYS, on the 3 lower left houses. Just take them and leave Aspenwood (provided you have supplies).

Oh, good combination for shotgun lovers:

Main: Shotgun
Secondary: UZI

So, you are reloading your shotgun, you are at 2 shots and running zombies get to you. Click fire, so that he ll stop reloading, change to the UZI and spray the zombies that by then will be on your barricade. Continue with the UZI until you can change clip, if you find relative peace, switch back to shotgun and reload.

Don't waste your bullets on walking zombies, unless they arrive too close. Let your survivors kill them. Your job is to kill runners and protect your survivors from getting killed by armed zombies. So, only shoot runners, EMPTY your clip quickly when it's low on bullets and reload to be ready for the next runner wave.

You need 6 days to go from the last city to Union city. The ending isn't all that great though, you don't lose anything...

Oh, i forgot. If you are one of those that don't have good aim and want to have easier headshots, try the fullscreen version of the game. The target is much bigger, headshots are easier. :)))

Apart kidding, it's a very interesting experience and your accuracy does improve very much.
