I don't hate emos.I just think that they are a pathetic waste of life.Seriously, they should stop whining and do something with their lives instead of sitting in their bedroom mutilating themselves and writing sh**ty poetry. They have it better than most people in the world, yet they insist on complaining about every single minor thing that's wrong with their lives.Makes me sick.

Right. You just like major contradicted (sp?) yourself on that one.
Now my opionon is kinda of a thrown up one.
Sometimes emo is a two way street as in the parent's aren't exactly loving to their children. Yelling at them, Scolding them on everything, telling them they do not look good, and sometimes even hitting them. Which means they not getting any postive attention from their parents.
But then again you aslo have the emo people who do it just to look cool. (I've meet these sort of people) those are the ones who get on my nerves.
P.S I know a few emo people who actually write great poetry.
Cutting yourself is a act of self mutilation. Unhealthy as it may be, it is for attention, a cry for help if you will, because it will make people see you need help, which results in postive attention.

Thinking them as a pathetic waste of life is hating them in my book. Waste of life? How could you say that?

@notaguitarhero, not completely correct. The first instance, I think you are referring to that person hating life, or depression? The second one is pretty misinterpreted. I really doubt they do it to be cool, since emos aren't exactly people, that society looks high upon...

Now you probably know that cutting can do damage to your health, but you also must know that chemicals are let out (During the cutting process) that make the cutter feel good.

I think Asherlee was telling me about a girl she dated that cut herself. She wasn't depressed, it just made her feel good.

Bolded: You'd be surprised. He does it because he thinks it's cool to be the odd man out. and he wants to be accepted by that group of people (Ironically they don't like him either. Poor kid.)
About the chemicals part: For real?
Wow. I never knew that. Learn something new everyday.

Well, if he really wants to get into that group, I don't see why cutting would help. Unless that is sooo praised upon. I might be able to see what you're talking about, but I don't really believe that that is common at all. Believe it or not, some people look on the inside, but others don't.

Haha, that's one of the great things about debating! Learning and using that new info later on! :D

I know. He dosen't cut himself. It's not praised upon in my school.I know a few kids that make fun of them relentlessly. I used to be one of those that make fun of them. But I've learned to no longer judge by looks alone.I know pelently of really cool emo kids. Most of the time their homelife is a living hell.

And you also have to remember, emo is a look too. People will dress emo, but really have nothing to do with cutting, or emo acts. Those people could just be regular Joes with an interesting taste in clothes. I know, I've been there. Yup, skinny pants and everything :P

::stabs eye with pencil::

I was a a punk, and enjoyed my attitude, and realized despite my punk music, I really dressed like a goth, and yes I was goth.
However I dress, whatever I do, I can't stop being the lil goth girl,  fishnet wearing girl with a corset collection and collector of fetish stories, along with tall boots, and a wardrobe in shades of black with streaks of red, or purple from time to time.

I remember echos of emo coming out of the subcultures of my world, as a type of music, I remember hearing of "awful" emo music in the midst of pause before the purr of the death metal drum started up again...

Then all of a sudden I moved to suburbia and see this emo culture amongst high school students. It seemed more like a revamp of 80s fashions I threw away mixed with goth, and nineties culture that had been thrown up long ago.

The emo's now aren't anything like I saw back then, and glorified cutting that was a goth thing. I almost feel like the emo culture is the child of goth that ran away.

Regardless what the case may be, we are all just people. Hippie, goth, beatnick, punk, emo, I think it all just boils down to the kids of this generation trying to find a new groove to be heard above all the other generations noise.

People really need to stop grouping others. We are all different and should be able to express ourselves freely. None of us are perfect so for those of you who said emos suck, you suck just as much. We really need to stop judging people based on looks. I will admit that some emos look strange to me but I don't judge them as a person based on that. I talk to them and get to know them. This generation is so ignorant and selfish that it amazes me. We all think we are God's gift to the world. This generation judges each other so much that it causes pain and sadness. Look at the teenage suicide rates! Teens don't just go an commit suicide for no reason. When you judge someone, you have no idea what that person has been through.

Advice: Stop being an ignorant selfish jerk.

...I think it all just boils down to the kids of this generation trying to find a new groove to be heard above all the other generations noise.

I think that this quote, from Lilithian, is the most fundamental and basic conclusion of this entire discussion.

Emo is what Goth,Grunge, Punk, Mod, Hippie, Hoodie, Scat and Jitterbug was. There is no real difference in it, no matter how much of a new skin you put on it. The kids who subscribe to it are the same as the generations before. They consider themselves outcasts, rebels without a cause.
They listen to music that makes their parents ears curl and they revel in the persecution that others that dont "understand" give them.  They wear clothes that makes them feel "different" and talk the same Doom and Gloom that former generations of their age talked.

Just know this: Someday, Emo will become the same thing that every other rebellious teenage trend evolved into....a clothing shop in a mall and a few dusty cds. The new generation will find their own spin on whatever angst their feeling, (I personally think theyll call themselves "Greens" and listen to techno mixed with whale calls) and Emos will take a seat next to their rebellious brothers in the nosebleed section of the pep rally bleachers.

Be depressed, if it makes you feel better. Listen to the music and talk about how noone understands you. But when you get a chance, take a look at the generation in front of you and realize that, more than likely, many of those old farts youre peering at were exactly like YOU.

its not the people i hate.. its the idea (i suppose) of being emo.. why be depressed.. why dress in black.. it seems fairly pointless to me... you may be abused and beaten and (insert your case) but still there are people fairing far worse than you...

the chains and hair and makeup just seem to be a little excessive..
