Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Miguel Cotto, billed as Ring Kings, is a Boxing Super Welterweight bout. The bout will be held on May 5, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Mayweather's Nevada boxing license normally would have been a rubber stamp, but the commission insisted that he appear in order to question him about the criminal case he recently made a plea deal in.
Mayweather faces an 87-day jail sentence at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas after a plea deal on domestic violence charges related to a September 2010 incident with his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris, who is also the mother of three of his children.
He was supposed to begin his sentence on Jan. 6, but the judge in the case, Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa, deferred his report date to June 1 after his attorney, Richard Wright, successfully argued that he should be allowed to fight on May 5 in order to honor an existing deal with the MGM Grand and because a Mayweather fight would inject $100 million into the ailing Las Vegas economy.
Mayweather, who faced intense questioning from the commission about his legal situation, reiterated that he was not guilty of striking Harris and that the reason for his plea deal was to keep his children, two of whom were present during the incident, from having to testify. Mayweather said that he restrained Harris, whom he said was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.

With Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto going to war on Saturday, May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, it’s time to be the beneficiary of the battle and find where the best bet would be.

While we will never condone gambling, there are always friendly wagers that can be made and these are just the best routes to take in that case.

All of the following bets have great odds right now, but always keep your eye on the late surge of people making wagers and what that can do to the line and odds.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr by KO, TKO or DQ +190

With this fight ending early only if Mayweather decides that’s how it has to end, this is one of the safer bets that actually pays out.

As much as Miguel Cotto has the knockout power to put Money on his back, Mayweather’s defense is too good and he will dictate the tempo and length of this brawl.

This fight still has the most likely chance to go the distance, with Floyd winning the decision, so taking this bet isn’t the safest; it’s just the safest bet that will actually pay out.

Miguel "Junito" Cotto by Decision +1400

There is no doubt that Floyd Mayweather is the favorite coming into this bout, but Miguel Cotto is one of the toughest fighters in the world. This won’t be a walk in the park for Money.

As good as Cotto is, he will not be able to penetrate Mayweather’s defense enough to KO him, but he may be able to keep him on his heels enough to win this fight by decision.

Since Cotto is the title holder in this bout, the judges will be in a very tough spot and it will be up to the champ to make sure there is no doubt. It will take a clear win to have a panel go against Mayweather’s undefeated streak.

Draw +4000

In what is the longest shot of the entire battle, betting a few dollars on this outcome seems like throwing money away, but could be the payday you dreamed of.

This fight has all the makings of going the distance, so there is a fairly good chance it gets to the judges’ scorecards on Saturday night. If that happens, there is no telling what could come out of their mouths.

While there is almost no way a panel of judges would award a loss to Mayweather via decision, I could see Cotto getting the better of Mayweather over the course of the fight but only being awarded a draw so the judges can avoid being the ones to hand Mayweather his only career loss.

A Miguel Cotto victory against Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be an upset of major proportions.

Mayweather has never been beaten. He has survived 42 previous fights and usually comes out of them unscathedâ€"hence the moniker "Pretty Boy."

Cotto will need to be 100 percent on his game to pull of this upset, but there are a few things he can do to secure the victory.

Stay Patient

Mayweather isn't going to be out there swinging for the fences. He's as patient and savvy as any boxer who's ever lived, and if Cotto has a chance to beat him, he'll need to employ the same strategy.

If Cotto tries to end the fight swiftly with a knockout, he's likely to get knocked out himself. He needs to bide his time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Cotto is clearly the more powerful of the two fighters, and if he can wear down Mayweather throughout the match by moving around the ring, he will find himself in a perfect spot at some point in the later rounds to go on the offensive with a flurry of combos,

Mayweather can be beaten, but the correct strategy must be employed.

Counter Mayweather's Straight Right

Money May's bread-and-butter move is his straight right. Whether he uses it on the attack or as a counter, he always utilizes this punch more than any other.

Cotto will need to be ready for it, and, furthermore, he needs to be ready to counter the straight right with his heavy left hand.

Cotto's main weapon is his left-hand hook. If Cotto can time his movements correctly, he will be able to go over the top of Mayweather's right and land big blows to his head.

When the Time is Right, Cotto Must Go for the Jugular

Cotto isn't likely to win a decision against Mayweather. He must win by knockout.

After laying low and staying patient, biding his time until the right moment, Cotto must not hold back his attack when he senses Mayweather getting weak and vulnerable.

He's got to go at Pretty Boy like Rocky against Apollo Creed at the end if he wants to take this match.

If Cotto can do these three things, he has a chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxingâ€"knocking off one of the true legends of the sport.
That would be a terrible ending, but something you’d benefit from financially.
