Greetings community veterans, community newcomers, trouble makers, trouble reporters, religious zealots, religious skeptics, and NoNameC68. If you have not already noticed, you will have come across user profiles and comments/forum posts with differing characteristics than what you're used to. The availability of this new feature is likely due to the previous two updates to the site undergone by the administration. The tags that are used in order to create these new characteristics are formed by HTML code. With HTML code, you can create large fonts, small fonts, strike-throughs, invisibles, and colors in every way imaginable. With HTML code, you can finally get the unique about page and individuality you've dreamed of!

Well keep dreaming.

So the start of it all was smooth sailing, but like flies to dung, it was only a matter of time before users started to abuse the use of HTML code in some way that violates the Terms and Conditions of ArmorGames. It only takes a few instances before those who have to intervene (the moderation team) become disappointed (like me) and have to be the bad guy and ruin the fun. So here are things you need to remember when faced with HTML ideals:

--Do not post HTML colors that are exact or similar to the font of a moderator or administrator (blue, green, and between). This is in line with the rule about impersonation, regardless of whether or not you were intent upon doing so. You should be familiar with this, because this rule has already been in place. Users will be warned then banned as usual.

--Do not post HTML tags that allow you to post images which contain content in violation of the rules. Treat this the same as you would in forum posts and comments. Reprimands vary on severity of image(s).

--Please do not make your font Galaxy Size and end up disfiguring the page. This disables buttons and links on your page such as the submit button on the text box and the Add Friend button. Messages containing BFG 9000 size font will be deleted and multiple messages found will result in warn/ban. Messages containing Apache Chief size font on the user page will be given a warning to take down the image, but if we can't even find the text box to warn you with, then we will warn you with a ban. User who do not take down the text on the about page a while after the first ban will be given another, leading up to a permanent if the user is very stubborn and intent upon keeping the text.

--Users who post in colors, bigger font, etc. on game pages intent on getting their comment noticed for a merit will be ignored.

--The HTML code can (probably) bypass the site censors. You know what happens when we find text with complete swearing.

--HTML that compromises the site and user's interaction with the site in general will be given a lengthy ban (and a permanent if continued without warning).

(more to add if necessary)

-----------------------------------------

This may or may not be a temporary feature of the site. The AG staff may take down the use of this kind of HTML code in the future.

a talk with your internet provider or local authority, so they might be able to explain why it's effing stupid to ruin someone else's income.

How is a talk with an internet provider or local authority supposed to punish a user in addition to a perma-ban and/or IP ban?

Considering what they would be doing is illegal, the internet provider might find that they have broken their contract (and as such, they will no longer be providing them internet or any other service) and considering what they did is illegal, the police might find it a good idea to come explain why it is stupid as heck to do such things.

After all, it might not do much to get an IP ban or anything, but if your internet provider shuts you off, because you have been a richardhead or the police writes you a notice that "oh, btw, hacking is illegal and could result in [years] in prison", it might have a greater impact.

Hello, i dont see the problem in shades of blue or green.. I mean just cause you have like light blue in your about doesnt make people think your a mod right? Cause than their would be that thing: Clausse is mod or Freakenstein is a mod so i dont see the problem.

And i don't see how posting pictures on a forum is a violation. I mean there is even a button for image i know that is a link but isn't using the html only easier? Cause it will soare you time to go to another page and another problem solved whit using the html is that you dont have to go to another image and find out it was a pornographic or agressive picture. If people post agressive or pornographic pictures whit html mods or admins will be able to find that out faster and are able to remove it faster.

Uh, blues and greens are alright in the about. It's not allowed in posts, though.
You are also allowed to post images. It's not a violation. Posting images that contain a violation, like, as you state yourself, pornographic material, uncensored swear words or the like, then you are in trouble, but you would be anyway.
The issue here is that the HTML code allows you to post images on your about, something mods cannot edit, which means there would be no quick removal of violations on an about.

So, you can use blue and green in the about but not in posts (as stated in the OP), and you can post images on the forum using html, as long as they are otherwise following the rules (as stated in the OP).

You are allowed to post pictures pretty much everywhere using the html coding, as long as it is not breaking any rules.
It is, however, recommended you don't post images in game comments, since it's annoying as heck, and might break the page.

This thread shows a negative effect on HTML.

As Patrick's thread shows, HTML can have bad effects. But it can also have good ones. <audio src="http://k005.kiwi6.com/hotlink/407365620c/Techno_Trance_Runaway.mp3" controls autoplay hidden></audio>

This user made a comment on my profile that coded for music. This means that going to my profile now causes music. The same music is on the user's profile that I linked to above. The music is somewhat annoying, but I'm not sure how coding for music would be ruled.

Oh no, html can be horribly abused. Whatever shall we do.

...
And this is why it was a bad idea in the first place, and why most forums limit the amount of codes a user is allowed to use, instead of trusting them to not be goddarned idiots and screw up and abuse the trust that was given to them.

One can fairly assume that the reason for the recent forum breakdown as of late is allowing users to fiddle with the HTML coding... true, the admins were the ones who locked/froze it completely, but the cause of it all is the HTML coding.

From what I understand, the cause was something much alike the embedded player that user is placing on his profile, as it was not a player, but an invisible redirecting link.

Once again... it's proven that allowing AG users to tamper with the HTML coding leads to bigger problems... what's next?!

So let me get this straight. Blue and green colors in the Abouts are not allowed, right? Say we know a person...who abuses this rule a lot?

Another thing, I'm not sure if it's been answered, or not, but is formatting your profile so its another justification allowed? Like someone's profile, I noticed is in center justified. Is that allowed? Literally, all of her page, (comments, rank, about, friends, and everything else) is centered. I was curious whether it is allowed?

Once again... it's proven that allowing AG users to tamper with the HTML coding leads to bigger problems... what's next?!

They will soon let regular users like us, promote one another to moderator status...
Well that might be my guess.
