Mario was my favorite platformer. I think it's weird how he was originally an enemy in Donkey Kong

Actually he was the good guy in Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong was the enemy.

Another fun this...he wasn't Mario back then, he was Jumpman...and the girl was originally named Lady, but was later changed to Pauline

And to answer the thread's questions...in my eyes it would be tie between Zhuge Liang, Lu Bu, left paddle in Pong, Link, Jak and Daxter (yeah..I'm puttin 'em together!), and Albedo Piazzolla
