    The background is dark to suit the dark mood to the dark story. I figure that would make sense...

    I really don't see the relevance in any of your other questions. Even an evolutionist would agree in terms of probability that these events occur by pure chance/knowledge such as the girl knowing how to pick locks... Why bore (more) your time explaining a history of the girl knowing how to pick locks???

    The ride of the valkyries was an idea from Tim schaefers "full throttle".
