The decrease in grade given is because grade 6's to start just made things too easy...
oh, btw, dual mastery is stronger than pure in chapter 0, unlike in chapter one...even i don't totally understand why.
also, there is a very usefull mastery; maxing red mastery unlocks the full potential of traps; any gem with a red component of at least 15 can hit up to 5 targets from within a trap, which compensates for the decrease in damage...and then it's shooting faster.
(oh, and all masteries maxed=start with a grade three and grade two of each gem color).
