  1. it's possible I haven't yet reached the map you speak of... :)
    I wonder whether you had a G12 by the time you had those 200 giants. My last battle ended with 2x400 waves of giants, top HP 140k, and then a set of 400-monster "normal" waves, but there was no challenge on that map.

  2. well, there could still be flaws in my strategy, since I haven't yet achieved 7k challenges, though I did anger up to 400 monsters/wave already and beaten them. It's possible that if the first wave containst a single giant, it's too troublesome to anger it twice, I did hit the same wall once already, that costed me a defeat :) but 2 or 3 giants are definitely angerable, maybe 3 giants could be angered 4 times - not sure.

    Early on your mana comes from killing monsters, not mana farm, it only does a supplementary contribution, it starts to pay off at wave ~10 if you build it at once. I think you'd better have a grade 6 gem with 2 amps of grade 3 each, firing speed early gives more than grade increase.

    About payoff - you need early mana to make you able to hold more angers early, I expect this early benefit scale faster than benefit from grade increase (sqrt(2) per grade), so you're better to anger initial waves more, and this will allow you to get 500 monsters per wave and eat them whole.

  3. After you get your first few waves, start angering with grade 2 gems and try upgrading your main tower with amps and grade - you need to anger for as much as you can handle (try avoiding banishment entirely) while psending less mana on angers than you will receive as reward for killing monsters. Anger first giant wave with at least 2 grade 3 gems, and by wave 20 you should then get a good load of a grade 9 L/O and several traps with grade 6 L/O gems to get you mana. Then start angering like you never did, up to 500 monsters per wave, probably with grade 5 gems. Unlock Y, add to your main gem and watch the fun.

  4. about 7k monster challenges - well, these are possible without premium, you need at least level 80, a level with ~40 waves on it or a good random roll of wave types, and L,Y,O colors. Start a level with SINGLE monsters, random waves, +15, extra armor (or other settings, or no extra flags, I like using banish flags up), then after you  build initial defence with L/O, you anger the HELL out of first few waves, so they should be two-hit each, sometimes your main gem will one-hit a monster, this will boost your mana to build a grade 3 L/O trap or several while maintaining anger level.
