  1. In the Genesis story God creates land creatures on the sixth day. This would include dinosaurs and humans, though dinosaurs would be first. You're right though that hardliners would say that this means dinosaurs don't exist or coexisted or some nonsense. Obviously I don't agree with them. And as for Muslims... I'd hope that at least most would acknowledge a common root in Judaism, if only regional.  I have no doubt some would be very, very unhappy with that statement though, but that's their loss.

  2. Sorry it took me a while to get back.  Had a busy week getting work in order before Thanksgiving. As to your questions...

First, I do believe the whole bible, but again, that it relates information too vast for our forebearers and to an extent, ourselves to understand.  After all, we keep discovering more information that 100 years ago no one though possible.  People 4000 years ago would not understand the concept of a trillion years, they couldn't even grasp the concept of numerical zero.  Seven days was much more their speed.

With that in mind, yes I believe dinosaurs existed and most likely in the timeframe given as carbon dating is fairly accurate.

Also, there are many religions, but I would argue that they all point to the same God, all with varying degrees of success at reaching the answer.  Christianity works for me and I know I'm right, but that doesn't mean everyone else is wrong.  I've already given reasons below as to why I think Christianity is correct.

Also, life outside of this planet would not change my beliefs because it'd be my bet they would have a monotheistic religion as well.  I have found no evidence in the bible to say that we are the only life.

  3. Thank you. I wish I could do bigger ascii art, but the pages for Ag won't let me! =*(

  4. First off, I wouldn't have been better off if my father had died, but he would have been, given that he would have been in heaven.  I wouldn't have been happy about it, but I would have understood.

Second, with no free will we wouldn't be human.  We would be animals, because we wouldn't be free to be curious, or happy, or to research and learn.  Without free will, evil would not exist, as we would not comprehend it.  Now to your questions.

Yes I believe all of the bible, and yes I am Christian.  I also believe that it was written by imperfect individuals attempting to relate information given to them that was too vast to comprehend by them, and thus the old testament in particular is a mixture of history and myth used to communicate essential truths.  I do belive God created the universe from nothing. I also think it took a lot longer than seven days.  But then again, exactly how long is a day if there is no sun, or earth revolving around the sun? How would you communicate to a civilization unable to even write the concept of creating the universe from a point of light over the course of trillions of years?  Not in any way they would understand, therefore you would give them the knowledge through metaphor, so the essential truth is maintained though the details are not.

I follow logic, common sense, and the laws of the universe as well. I'm an engieer, these three things are my livelihood. But I say again, that an intelligent person can believe in God. The existence of God in no way violates logic, common sense, or the laws of the universe. If anything, belief deepens my understanding.  Have you ever sat in amazement at the recurrence of the Golden Ratio over all of creation? Exactly why does the ratio of (a+b)/a recur everywhere?  Is it coincidence? Why can you not locate both the position and velocity of an electron at any point in time?  Why is it that as we dig deeper into the universe, we find only more questions?

What is my point? The universe is beautiful, and complex, and amazing, and I see God in it.  Likewise the history of man is wroght with myths that point to crisis of undifferentiation and scapegoating ended only by the crucifixion of Christ and the begining of linear history. But in the end, it IS simply a feeling. A knowing.  I know he exist because I feel that presence with me always. I can give you my insight, my emperical evidence to His existence, but there is nothing I can say to prove God.

  5. idk i think if i could be perfect, i would choose to be so..
