There several strategys for 5-3, spam fire dragons work well, besides that every range unit works good, thunder witches or fire succubi...
If you get some of the rare rewards on this mission (fire dragon crystals), you can fuse twin salamander... they might be the best here (on lowr levels^^)
On the equipment side... youll need some +mana items... add the best +atk items you have and rage them, maybe cast heal if needed.

Equipment... cant remember all of that, but high stat gear (zeus staff) works great here. If you still fail... you need higher stats, so farm to lvl up/get better equipment^^

Ah, read your post yet, so 3-6... well, not a big deal^^
Ranged units (like gorillas/matriarchs/succubi) works fine, but you need to spam "cannonfodder" to protect them from his melees (goblins work fine, dont use hobbits), nother way is to summon a steady stream of succubi and rage them, maybe support them with some matriarchs, if you do that he wont summon tigers or wargs, he only spams archers then^^

Again, youre not talking about 1-3... the first enemy with warg riders is on 3-6...

You cant mean 1-3... chapter 1 mission 3 he has no warg riders^^
But if you need a lil tip let me know, simply tell me where you stuck (chapter - mission)
