Yes, the reason is that atheists don't fit in there. It's sort of like a church. However, if you look at the website forum there, you'll see that there is also atheists (annoying).

I have attended a number of church services of a variety of religions and denominations. I find it a fundamental flaw to rely on faith.
As for "why not" just pretend. It's because I'm in search of what is real. I'm looking for facts and I'm not going to get that by playing pretend.
