To unlock enemies you must find them and destroy them. Then they should be unlocked in the bubble-o-pedia. You can choose from enemies there. I am sure the enemy tanks show up at random and I have unlocked them all but 1 (I have seen many people talk about how they can't find the sapper fighter... the oen I cant find).
If you want to unlock tanks taht you can use for the arena, beat the game using the tanks you want to use in the arena. After killing the boss, keep playing in invinsable mode THEN go back to the menue. There is a glitch were the tanks do not always save right (it might have been fixed by now) so if you do not have the tank unlocked all i can say is to try again.

I went did what u said and built lots of towers and made lots of level 4 and 5 gems. After he got past my main amount of gems i bombed him and he only had 4000 Hp. Then i used my most powerful gems and killed him before he got to my base. Thanks for the help.
P.S. I got the glowing frame score

The only problem i have on the third epic is i cant beat the final boss.
