Trebuchets are a style of catapult that launch their payloads using gravity, by means of a counterweight. The traction propels the arm, and will often employ a type of sling to allow for greater distance of travel. Trebuchets are set aside from the rest of the catapult family due to not needing to use built up tension to unleash the tension for its throwing force.
