For example, Awsome Tanks 2 -currently 7.9 rating on AG.

You win a level then you enter into the next level which you can't possibly win, and so the cycle repeats itself:

Lose lose lose until you have enough cash. Buy upgrades. Win only because of your upgrades. Repeat process in next level.

Is there a reason why these skilless games are popular?

Because they don't make the player rage quit it and because they are very easy. Sometimes people just don't like a challange. If there could be any other reason... idk what would it be o_O

Many people (Including myself) play them because they are fun. Sure there's no challenge, but those types of games are good if you're waiting for a game to download in the background. It's a good time killer.

These "skilless" games actually require some skill to an extent, at least usually. Take "Flight" for an example. You could probably beat Flight eventually by staring at the TV and making random arm motions that result in going one meter a second, but would that be any fun? NO! Also, the achievements in the game (I.E. Beat the game in 85 days or so) push you to actually try and figure out the game mechanics to get them. Figure out what upgrades help the best early game and which dominate late game. Figure out the best strategy for staying in the air the longest, or killing the most tanks without coming into the clear yourself. (I haven't even played Awesome Tanks 2 but that's what I would expect of it...) Another thing you get by beating the level/mission/whatever is that they might have a bit of a story in them. In Flight, once you get past the certain country, you see a nice video clip of people wishing for something better in their lives and putting it on that marvelous paper airplane. Think Raze 2, which still could be defined as a "skilless" game even though your skill progresses just as much as your upgrades/guns do! Once you beat every mission for either Humans or Aliens, you get a cool clip as well and a new twist in the story. Even if there is no other reward besides beating the game, you still get that feeling that you beat that game in, uh, flying colors.

Even if I just spewed pure **** with the games I mentioned and "rewards" and all, um well hopefully I didn't...
